Just wondering if anyone who has replaced the folding plastic tractor-type seats in a Coleman canoe with wood wants to pass on the plastic seat.

I usually paddle solo, but my occasional front paddler needs a firm back support - we've tried a sit-backer but it just doesn't cut the mustard

I can see spare seat backs here https://www.kayaksandpaddles.co.uk/cano ... k-rest.htm, but would also need the seat to fit it to.

The seat back you listed is supported by straps secured on top of the gunwales. Is it worth trying to fit the bottom to the wooden seat? If it doesn't work, you're no worse off, but if it does you've saved the faff of changing to a plastic seat you don't have.

Fran, the boat I've just bought (same as yours I think) came with a couple of spare plastic seats. I wouldn't describe them as tractor seats though; more of a slightly wider bench with an arse dent molded into it.

I'll shoot to my unit later and get a picture. If they can be any use to you, they're yours.
(All I'd ask is that if you find that you no longer need them, I get first dibs)

They don't seem to have the slots for attachment, but might do the trick - I'll say 'yes please' to the bow seat (or both if you want them to go as a set) and see if it suits. Thanks very much indeed.

No worries Fran; now we just need to work a way out to get them to you :-)

Being now of a retired persuasion, I can drive down to Aldershot more or less any day to collect them, maybe tying that in with a jaunt on the Basingstoke Canal.

And as my boat is also a Pyranha Prospector, I can show you my kneeling seat setup!

                  Hello Fran,

It's unlikely I'll be able to get out for a paddle for a couple of weeks; maybe something in the weeks starting 5/03. If you need the seats before then, you're welcome to arrange to pick them up if you're passing this way.

Certainly would be interested to see how you've set your boat up.

                      Hello Fran,

Things are still pretty unpredictable for me at the moment so planning to meet up for a paddle might be difficult. If you need these seats I would be happy to run them out to you though.
