Can anyone recommend a good place to paddle (preferably close to motorhome park) in the Peak District?

    Thanks.

      Hello and Welcome!

Sadly, the Peak District is not particularly good for paddling.

There's the Peak Forest Canal, to the west around Whaley Bridge.

The river Derwent is normally considered a moderate moving water river, though needs reasonable levels so more likely to be paddled in winter.

The canal around Cromford is in a lovely valley.

      Have a look on Paddle Points: http://www.paddlepoints.net/PaddlePoint ... 20district

Much of the rest of it is small, rock-filled hill streams.

Unfortunately, the powers that be don't let canoeists paddle on the reservoirs, for nonsensical reasons such as "contaminating the water" (like the fishermen in boats don't do?!).

Depending on which side of the Peak you're thinking of, there are other options within an easy hour or so of the Park boundary.

Not exactly the Peak District but Rudyard lake is nice. Around a mile and a half long, loads of wildlife, Ray ,the warden is brilliant, l went on Sunday, on the water for 0715. £7 put in, usually a willing hand to help load/unload. (That's because you're in Staffordshire, where God lives.)
Also the Cauldon canal at Froghall.:davy:

            Hello and welcome.

i think the above posts cover the best places, plus the river near Matlock. The Macclesfield canal North of Macclesfield is quite nice and I think there’s some sort of caravan type site on the banks somewhere.

If you fancy a short stretch to play on, try Matlock. Little slalom course and a couple of little drops

If you take your own canoe to Carsington Water I think that it is about £8.00 for the day that includes parking. Not sure about camping facilities. I think you need something to confirm competence such as bcu 2 star. You could phone to see what is required.

Heratige Canoe trail Frogall end is nice and runs along side the steam railway.. Rudyard as mention are by far the two best places to paddle up that way it’s Staffordshire moorlands on the edge of Peak District.

I've paddles there but don't remember paying or anyone asking for dosh. Was with a bunch of other canoeists too.

There is a fee you’re supposed to pay at the office .. It’s all fairly relaxed sometimes it’s hard to find anybody to pay

Carsington you are restricted to a tiny area, its only about a mile and a half from home but still I much prefer Rudyard.
