Hard to believe Dagger would want this info floating around. Is this just a
breach of confidentiality or what?

Not really - doubt those are the net, net prices the dealers actually pay!

Not cool at all dude! If you're a dealer and posted this you're an idiot. If
not, I hope your local dealer sees this and never lets you back in the shop!

stay off the dudes back, we all know about dealer mark up, dont get your panties
in a wad, just as many dagger boats will be sold with or without this list.

I don't know. When you're looking at new cars, do you find out what the
invoice price is, or do you just go by the sticker? Of course, not all
dealers have paid the same price for their boats, and some will discount more
than others.

Well, Leland; why not zow us with why you believe that.

This newsgroup is the perfect place for such information. I would
hazard to guess that most who follow this NG will appreciate such
info (if indeed the price list is factual).

As Joey Hall said in another post in this thread:

"we all know about dealer mark up, don't get your[self] in a wad,
just as many [of this brand of] boats will be sold with or without
this list."

Do you have stock in that maker's company or something?
Is that manufacturer charging an exorbitant markup?

The markup in most of the outdoors industry ranges from 35-50 percent. Next
time you buy a tent, bike, skiis, rack, slleping bag, etc. you can use these
ranges to figure out a fairly accurate rough dealer price. Knowing this
information only becomes dangerous to the retail structure when a dealer
breaches and undersells which ultimately just hurts that dealer. They need that
margin to pay employeees, keep the lights on, pay for their retail space and
maybe, maybe make a few shillings profit.

More than that, even if the numbers are what they purport to be, they
are almost meaningless without also stating the terms of sale (from
factory to dealer).

For example, what is the factory's return policy? A no-questions-asked
return policy (like REI used to have for retail customers) might be
worth $200 or 300 per boat to the dealer. How 'bout national and co-op
advertising? If the factory does a lot, then a higher price per boat
(maybe $100) is justified. Exclusive territories? Enforcement of MSRP?
No retail sales from factory? Other "channel discipline?" Spifs?
Promos? Field support? POS material? On and on.

Reading anything into these numbers without knowing the terms of sale
shows a total lack of understanding of how business works. But that
never stopped a thread here before. :)

I'd say that there is an excellent chance that this represents disinformation
and someone woul like to have us think that dealers pay $595 for a whitewater
boat.

Based on some of the prices I have seen, I'd say that is impossible.

I can comfirm this by experience. I bought a new Outburst two years
ago, from a local shop that was going out of business. The owner
acted as a Dagger dealer for me (since Dagger does not go factory
direct), and I gave this dealer $50 for their trouble, and got my
*new*, custom color Outburst for $650!!! (Rounded.)

I don't have a problem paying dealer prices, they do add value and
service, and ought to make a few $$ on a boat they sell, but like
another poster said about new cars, knowing the price the dealer pays
gives the consumer necessary and valuable knowlege to judge whether or
not their dealer is offering a good deal!

bob, to me $595. sounds about right if not a litlle high for a dealer to
pay. think about it: if you were to buy boats at $595. apiece and say
you buy 10 boat at a time. thats $5950 you put out. how much money do
you think is fair for the dealer to make on his $5950 investment?
actually i think the price is lower cuz thats not much less than i
usually pay. the most i ever paid is $750 because the boat was only out
2-weeks and i had to have it.
if your patient and have internet access almost any boat can be had
for around $700-750 and even less if their older
models.
peace,
tom.

in anticipation for precipitation!

This message is for anyone who thinks a 30-40% markup is high for a boat:

What do _you_ sell for a living? Face it-- you generate money by selling
products, services, or your time. What's your markup? You may have to do
some digging to get this number, but it will make your jaw drop. Your eyes
will bulge, and you will have a sudden urge to urinate.

Here's the real test. Go to your LBS and meet the people working there.
Get to know them. Go boating. Did they run the shuttle in a Mercedes? I
don't think so.

Please be careful how you read posts to the newsgroup.

I did not say what you have attributed to me above. That was taken from the
post to which I was replying (written by someone name Leland) and was cleary
marked as the first few lines of this are. I don't particularly appreciate
your broadcasting to the "world" a sentiment that I do not necessarily hold.

I apologize for this aggregious misattribution. I will go back and
check how I made such a stupid error. I am usually very careful
aboutb these kinds of things.

To the best of my knowledge, that is the dealer price but that doesn't
include shipping to the dealer, which would run between $50 and $90 per
boat.

Thanks for info. I am buying a kayak from an acquainted who is buying a newer model so knowing the approximate price of it when new and reading reviews assured me that she’s giving me a good price
