Ohře River, Kadaň
Playspot, Czech Republic (North East), Ohře River, Kadaň |
What's it like
A nice wave / hole at an old mill in the town of Kadaň (17 500 residents). During surfing you have a beautiful view of the old church towers. The town has a long tradition and offers some 50 restaurants and bars. There is a building site next to the old mill, but at the time of writing, the builders ran out of money, so nothing is happening there really.
There is a small island in the river. On one side there is a wide weir (which you should NOT paddle). On the other side there is a 5 meter wide lock, in which a wooden construction creates a narrow playspot. Eddies are available on both sides.
If you flip and flush, roll fast as the next little drop is close. No big deal if you miss it, but you'll have to get out of your boat to get back to the spot.
How to get there
On the main road (13), take the exit to Kadaň. Drive through the town until you come to the river: bingo!
Locals
The police tolerate paddlers sleeping on the island. If you do this, please make sure to keep the place absolutely clean (litter, audio etc.) so you don't spoil it for the locals! They have very good relations with the community officials and would like to keep it that way.
