The CR (Cross River) Series is a river running playboat built from the ground up.

Each part of the boat was designed for a specific type of paddling, rather than just taking an existing playboat design and softening the edges. That is what makes the Cross River a different boat all together. We talked to paddlers and dealers from all over about the characteristics that this boat should have to make it the perfect boat for the category and the list went something like this.

1. Comfortable- That is pretty self explanatory. People overwhelmingly said they were tired of cramming themselves into tiny playboats. They wanted something they could sit in all day and not be crippled at the end of the river. So what we did is added extra knee room, and gave it big footbumps so space wasn't an issue. We also came up with another simple outfitting idea. We lined the whole foot area with a layer of foam. Its called the "Cone of Comfort", because you have to give everything a stupid name. The cool part about the cone is that it covers the outside of your foot and you can still use your LL footbag, or your foam bulkhead inside the cone. We also reworked our hip pads so that they are screwed to the seat and are completely adjustable up, down, forward, back, in, out, and on angle. So that your can dial in just the right hip pad placement without having to rip them out and start over. All our boats except the Huck and Gus will come with the adjustable hip pads and all boats that DO NOT have a bulkhead will come with the cone of comfort and foot foam. There may be an option for you to pick which foot system you want. The Footbag, or the Foot Foam system.

2. Easy to Use- That meant different things to different people.
Folks wanted a boat that would help them get downstream rather than hinder it. They also looked for it to be an easy rolling boat. By using the spin disk I am able to get a looser boat in a narrower flat surface. Therefore I can get more secondary stability with a 25 or 26 inch wide boat, rather than adding another inch like some of the other boat designs. Hint measure the boats yourself. That also gives the sidewall of the boat a nice shape for rolling easily.

3. Still Rip in All types of Features- That is also fairly obvious.
The boat is being designed to; rip around on a wave, be loose, blunt, clean spin, whatever you want. It is also a very balanced cartwheelling boat, that will loop huge because of the extra volume to keep you on the surface when you are paddling downstream. And from Woody who has been out paddling this boat all summer the thing that he was really excited about was how well it stern squirted. A little old school is good for everyones soul.

It's the type of boat that enjoys every part of the river!

I bought this as a boat I could run rivers and shred waves with, and it is good at that. There is room to get your food and rescue gear in. It is very comfortable. The relitavely long planing hull brings it up on the plane on very small waves making ferries easy .It spins more easily than my Gliss, is lighter and easier to roll. I was surprised that it is more forgiving than my old Prijon Hurricane and has excellent secondary stability. When surfing the bow does not purl as easily as the Gliss. Putting it upright is not as easy as the Gliss, but somebody heavier than me will probably do better.
It is not a good rescue boat, The stern bar is to near the cockpit for a swimmer to hold easily and it is too slow to shunt boats to the bank. A peice of climbing tape on the stern bar would help the swimmer.
Overall I guess it acheives what the designer set out to do. I like the boat a lot and I wonder why LL stopped making it, I suppose not enough people bought it.

About Me
Comfortable enough on class 111 to run it with out scouting on most occasions, 175cm tall, 70Kg in my padddling gear (which where I live means lots of fleece and a dry suit even in summer). I am basically a river runner who likes surfing.
Pros / The Good
Very comfortable with good outfitting
Cons / The Bad
The plastic does not seem very abrasion resistant

About the reviewer

started whitewater late last year and am a competent class III boater

Test environment

ottawa river, southern ontario runs

Review

the boat is exceptional in every aspect, i started paddling this boat in the pool during the winter and was rolling it my first night, this summer when i took it to the ottawa river, i was able to spin a bit. this boat has gotten me down any run i've tried without fail. Maybe the only con is that stern squirting and bow stalls are a little tougher than i'd anticipated because of the extra volume in the ends

Conclusion

this is one of the boats i'd recommend to someone who was starting out because this boat has taken me everywhere i've wanted to go in kayaking and more.

I really enjoy this boat, the short of it is: it does anything you want it to, whitewater/play/ even pool. Very comfortable, no problems with quality control, looks sexy.

The only con I can come up with is I found it hard to roll, in comparison with other similar boats (Jackson Fun series, Dagger Kingpin). It took a while for me to get my hand roll back in this boat.

Conclusion

Excellent boat, have had no problems, puts a smile on my face every time I use it.

I have been looking for a boat that would meet my water challenges. I live in the Kansas and real white water is tough to come by. We have the Kansas river that is great for tour kayaks and it has a few areas to play in. I looked for a boat that would cross over from river mode to play mode and I believe I have found it. The CR 125 is first of all a sweet lookin ride. The hardware is top notch. The seat is comfortable, the back brace seems durable. The hip pads adjust out, up, down, forward, back and at angles. This makes me feel like I'm cinched in well. The foam insert for the feet may have to go but it came with the foam cell padding and that was easy enough to get to fitted. Plenty of room. It's well balanced and glides on the water. Response to the paddle and throwing my hips around. I had read a comment that CR stands for can't roll. Maybe for them but when I put it in the water for the first time I immediately went through 3 consecutive rolls...no problems at all!

Conclusion

I'm very pleased with my purchase. Looking forward to getting it on the river and into some white water. Even scoping some creeks in the area that run well when the snow melts or when we get a good rain. Kudos to the guys at 4 Corners Kayaks were I bought the boat from. They know their kayaks, very informative and listened to all of my needs. They were top notch!

Edgy, not very stable, too big and too buoyant to get the boat upright (at least from a beginner's standpoint) when trying to roll.

Conclusion

The Dagger RPM is a dream to roll compared to this cool looking boat. However, this boat is appropriate for an experienced person who loves surfing and playing, and who is an accomplished roller.
