This adjustable 3 piece aluminum paddle from Tower is a great value for a solid, durable paddle. As with most economy paddles there are trade-offs:

Pros: Great for when you're traveling as you can break the paddle down into 3 pieces, the longest of which is 35 inches. Unlike many adjustable paddles on the market, this paddle is rock solid and won't snap on you in the water. This is a big safety concern as economy fiberglass paddles are notorious for snapping.

Cons: When fully assembled, it floats due to a mostly sealed off chamber in the handle. So for all practical paddle boarding purposes, this paddle "floats". If you drop it while paddling, it will float and you can retrieve it. Keep in mind that it's not completely sealed off, however, so if you let the paddle sit in the water or submerge it, it will take on water over time. Once it takes on enough, it will sink. If you keep an eye on this, you're fine, but make sure the kids are aware of this reality. Also, being a metallic paddle it should be thoroughly rinsed with fresh water when used in salt water to minimize corrosion. Due to both these factors, it's not really an ideal paddle for surfing. You'll want to get a wooden SUP paddle or carbon fiber SUP paddle as your mainstay for paddle surfing most likely, but this will work as a great traveler.
