Dry top 18 years 8 months ago #10073

Hi,

Can anyone reccomend me a new dry top. I would use it for freestyle mainly if that changes anything.

As pre-season at the store has come around I have looked at lots in the last few weeks. I think that Kokatat makes the best dry top I have ever seen. That said the price is often the stopping point for people. Other notable mentions are Stolquist, and Level Six. All make pretty good tops. One I don't mind is Gul. I am on my second Gul top. My first I bought for an amazing bargain and then it crapped out after about 1/2 season. The replacement took awhile to get to N.A., they are in Britian, but it seems to be a much nicer top. The verdict is still out on it though as I have only paddled in it a few times. If you go with Gul make sure you get one with latex gaskets as some of the tops they call dry only have neoprene gaskets that work ok but not totally dry.

I just pick up a Palm dry top, not at the top of the price list but plenty of nice features... kevlar elbows, 2 chest zippered dry pocets that are actually accessable w/ a pfd on. Haven't been beating the snot out of it, but its holding up nicely.

I use the Nookie gravity for freestyle. I had to cut the latex neck down really far coz I don't like latex much, but it still keeps me dry.

It's got cool removeable elbow pads, they are great if you're short and bash your elbows on your boat (I know that makes me sound like a complete idiot but it happens).

It also has these little clips inside that hold your spraydeck in place, this stops any water coming down the tube.

I use an NRS revolution. It's been great.
