Layering?

What do you guys use and wear and how do you layer?

Say above 30 degree day.

Wetsuits?

fleece?

Drytops?

wool?

Do you have any home brews that you layer with?

Do you over do it and peel off as you go or do you have them days where you wished you had more on.............

 Well, today, I wore fleece pants, fleece top, booties, and a drysuit. Took the drysuit off, I was dry and didn't have to change. Just got in the car and went home. Sayed warm although the water temp was in the fourties.

 I got my drysuit for a realy good deal (over $100 off) at www.outdoorsportz.com look up Stohlquist Whitewater Drysuit.

Peace,

Here we go, man just what I was looking!

Just trying to get a better understanding of wetsuits and dry top.

If you wear a wetsuit what would the purpose of wearing a drytop? If the wetsuit isn’t getting wet would this cause you get cold with out it working with the water.
Don’t understand that!

So is a wetsuit and drytop a good combo?

How about fleece under a drytop.? Just one fleece jacket covered by a drytop.

The drytop keeps you dry when paddling. The wetsuit will keep you warm in case you end up swimming in cold water. Ofcourse the wetsuit will provide lot of warmth in the boat aswell.

It's a very good combo for relatively warm days when the water is cold. It's not too warm in general, but will provide enough warmth that you will survice in case of swim.

Most paddlers wear either a thinner shirt made of synthetic fabrics under their dry top in warm condtions or thicker fleece shirt when it's colder.

For the price of all the other accessories combined, you can almost get a drysuit. With a drysuit you don't need to wear wetsuits, layers, etc.... I just wear nothing but fleece pants and a fleece top. This breaths very well, and keeps you warm, even if you swim. Makes changing after you're done as easy as just taking off the drysuit, nothing else compares. A drysuit and fleece also is much less restrictive, you can move and breath effortlessly.

 Drysuit all the way baby!

When you say 30 degrees do you meen farenheight? 30 C i would be wearing a T shirt and thats it! I usually jus have neoprene layer then a dry top, works for me. Sometimes too well often the only dampness comes from sweat!

go warmer - its easy enough to cool down practicing rolls in an eddy... it's dangerous to find yourself cold, especially towards then end of your day, when your body is tired and not generating any heat - if you have not much on, you'll chill very quickly and things could get bad i.e. hypothermia.
if you are too too warm after getting dressed up, you can alway remove a layer - but if you don't have it with you, you can't put more on...
