Addtional boat 18 years 6 months ago #10174

Hi guys and girls,

I'd like some opinions from a few people. I have a Necky Blunt that I use on any hard rivers or any overnight trips that I do ( I love it). I also have a Wave Sport ZG 54 which I use as a play boat (er, really? :-)) and for river running. I find that when I have some additional clothing on in winter, maybe a split paddle, a throw bag and what not, first aid kit, some food and 2 litres of water.. the boat is a lot more edgy and not much fun in say, class 4.
So I am thinking of the Wave Sport EZG60. It is quite a bit more in volume than the ZG54 and 8cm longer. The parting line of the boat is also slightly higher. I weigh 85kg without any clothes or shoes or paddling gear. Would the EZG60 be quite different or do you think I'm wasting my time. The EZG would be a third boat and not a replacement.
Remember that it is no use telling me, 'try this LL boat or Jackson', cause we only have very limited options here in South Africa and I wouldn't want to order a boat online. Not one I've never even seen or paddled. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.. Here's the comparison: playak.com/kayaks.php?id2=278&id=192
In fact, looking at the two I'd say the EZG would make a fair difference. More volume, sitting higher on the water, more speed...
Cheers ;-)

Have you thought of the Fluid spice, Ades? Support your country man:lol:
Atleast you can demo those.

Hey Scotty! :-)

Long time no see. I have thought about the Spice:ask: I have tried the large and it was pretty large ;-). Felt ok I guess. I don't enjoy the outfitting in the Fluids. I prefer Wave Sports outfitting. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age ;-)..hehe. Whats your thoughts on the EZG? I know you are Fluid all the way though

(You going to be paddling in Natal Jan/Feb/Mar next year? I'll be in Plettenberg Bay in Dec if you are in the area...)

Well, fluid has just updated their outfitting so maybe you should check out the latest.
As far as the EZG goes, i think it's a decent boat the only problem is the price down here in SA. Also if you plan to do any multi day trips you'll be wanting for space in the stern.
I'll be on the Zam for the whole of December, beginning of Jan i'll be in natal but i might go back later in the month pending on water levels. after that i have my eye on a waterfall in the lowveld as waiting on waterlevels.

good lines and big air

Ok, cool. Hmmm, haven't seen the new outfitting. It seems to be changing all the time, which is good :-). For multi-day trips I'll still be using my Blunt ;-). Sounds like a good holiday is on the cards for you. Let me know when you're in the Lowveld and I'll do the same. Want to run the Crocodile Gorge, outside Nelspruit. Mate of mine says it looks awesome from the road. Just VERY many hippos and crocs and they are visible from the one bridge I hear ;-). Oh well, just gotta practise my sprinting... hehehehe. Have a great wkend! Cheers for now.

If you can get WS then you should be able to get Dagger, they are owned by the same company. In that case give the RX a try. I own and EZG 50 and have traded off many times with my friends RX 6.7. Both feel really good. I think that it really comes down to personal preference. The RX 6.9 is 58 gallons so it may still be a bit more playful than the EZG 60. Ulitmately the 60 is a great boat if the wieght range is where you need it to be. I do agree that the stern is a little low in volume for tonnes of stuff. I split up some of the stuff with my wife so we both paddle a balanced boat.

I bought the EZG60. Only paddled it on flat water so far but it feels pretty cool. Can still still carthweel it, although it requires more muscle power, very smooth and quick once it gets going. Tmrw I'll try it on a river and see how it goes. So far so good ;)

To answer this, yes I could get it. The shop doesn't stock it but could order for me at the same cost as the WS. Too late anyway now... Thanks anyway, the RX did cross my mind but I wasn't keen to wait. :roflol:
