Werner does a decent explanation in their product guid of explaining the benefits of blade design. www.wernerpaddles.com/design.html here is their design explanation page.

As far a cags. Gor-tex seems to me to be the best material. It works by having holes that are to small for water to get through but big enough for vapour to pass through. Some are not breathable and are a p/U coated nylon. I don't remember what p/u stands for. Do you know what cag you are going to descirbe?

Most of the highest end cags use gor-tex. Some will use there version of Gor-tex (GCX 3 for a Gul example). Really the patent ran out on Gor-tex a while ago so companies are saving $ by making there own. A telling thing is that most companies nicest full featured jackets are made out of Gor-tex.

For more detailed information check out palms website they have lots of information about the different types of waterproof lamiates they use ie xp50- xp200. It explains the difference between the materials and the hydrostatic head of each.

Personally Gore tex is advertised so much and their are better materials out there which lets the material breathe and last longer gore is not very abrasive resistant and needs to be cleane regulary with soap to unblock the pours to let it keep breathing which lets face it most paddlers just hose down their gear and let them drip dry if their lucky (some leave it n the car between trips)

all thecompaines also use different types of laminates with a different water proof membrane could be worth speaking to several tell them what you are doing some will probably tell you to get lost some may help you out

good luck

Why not check out the Nookie website, www.nookie.co.uk

If you go to their 'News' then 'Product News' it does all the work for you on their Gravity Cag.

Find it here:

I agree with Urge on Goretex, there are a lot better fabrics out there for kayaking.
