the Strutters are super comftorable...i am 16...and my parents are both 50 something...and they both have it and love it...as you know...it has a brim...and if you go over...it doesn't really affect your roll at all...to some people it does but it really doesnt...the sizes are in cm...they start at 53cm-56cm, 56cm-59cm (my sizes...average), then the biggest which is 59cm-61cm...so yeah...check them out on the internet somewhere

I got a strutter earlier this year and I really love it.

It is by far the most comfortable helmet I have worn.

Definetly worth the cash.

 Bahhh... to me a hlemet is the most functional piece of equipment. Anything that protects my head is good enough. I have a ProTech basic helmet I bought for 32 dollars. I told the manager of the store I wanted black, which he didn't have so I got him to to take four dollars off the price.. It's taken a coupple of licks and it works great. I'd rather spend the cash on something more important like an extra paddle or an overthruster.

I tend to disagree on this one. I'd say your helmet is the most important piece of kit you own. It's like riding a motorbike, you always buy the best helmet possible. You never know when you'll need it. My brother in law had a bad motorbike accident and his helmet saved his life. Even though he managed to lie in a coma for a month and has taken more than 2 years to recover. Blood on the brain is damn serious and so is learning to walk and talk again. The road is long and painful I can assure you. Anther mate of mine's brother crashed his bicycle too and has never recovered.
Yes, you say, thats a bike... But, do yourself a favour. Have a look at American Whitewater and see how many people have died from head injuries. Apart from suffering a large blow to the head which could cause severe damage or death, you could also knock yourself out and then more than likely drown. I suppose why we don't really hear of people having brain injuries from whitewater is because they generally drown.
Cheaper helmets tend to take large blows yes, but they don't distribute an impact force well and therefore the force is very localised and intense. Not good. Better helmets have been designed to absorb forces better and through a greater area. A serious blow to a carbon or composite helmet and you can throw it away. Just like any other helmet that has been designed to save your life.:bounce: Just my :2cents: . Use it, don't use it.
I don't want to bad mouth people who use Pro-Tec's or similar ( I used to paddle with one) just some general comments. You could kayak all your life and never take a big impact. To me, life is too precious:pray:
Over and out ;)

Hi Jay,

have a look at the article i wrote on my blog i wrote recently on the Strutter, linesandblunts.blogspot.com/2006/10/sweet-strutter-review.html.

There's a nasty little story concerning a friend of mine who has a too closer experience with a rock and another of me with the same rock, the difference in outcome was the different helmets we were wearing. Which further backs up Adrian's view.

Good lines
Scotty

For sure, the composite helmets are pretty damn expensive. I know how it feels to be a student mate, was one for 5 years  The Protec will still serve you well. I just wouldn't feel 100% on something very serious. Otherwise they do the job ;)

Are there any dangers to having such a long brim? I've been told never to wear a baseball cap under your helmet because water pushing on the brim can cause the helmet to slip back on your head, or the brim can come down over your eyes.

Does this helmet fit so well that the brim won't make it slip around when upside down in fast current?

like anything the strutter has its high points and its bad ones. The brim could possibly catch a rock or tree branch, but any helmet that is correctly adjusted shouldnt move on your head and expose your forehead or the base of your skull. That said the brim can provide an air pocket in the event of a pin. Remember this is a play helmet, not a creeking helmet. Its not a full face helmet that will protect your jaw, but it does provide pretty good coverage (trust me, i know too well).

I have tried several different helmets over the years (both with and with out baseball caps under them).

When I was in uganda I was amazed that almost everybody had a strutter as I thought the peak would catch way too much water. After a couple of weeks boating on some powerful water I found out that my protec, even with out a baseball cap under it, gets pushed around a lot more than the strutter, and I was the one with my helmet half way off my head after a slamming not them!

After that I went out and bought one myself for playboating, they are great helmets.

I got mine last week and I am a happy man. The comfort is really, really good and the quality, world class. Even after paying 270 US Dollars for it (shipping was 40 and then another 35 once i picked it up from the post office, import tax), I still think it was money well spent. Pity no one sells them here. If offers better protection than I intially thought, although I'll still paddle my Shred Ready, Full Mental Jacket on anything that makes me really nervous  hehehe

Thanks all! Now I just have to decide if I'm willing to pay that much.

Remember, you should have a dealer near you (hopefully), and will only pay about 190/195 US...
