Do airbags make a difference in playboating?

When ever I stern dip, my boat leans to the left, I have an airbag in my right because I usually use the left for equipment but at this time it was empty with just an airbag in the right.

Does this ACTUALLY make a difference?

Also, does it generally make a difference when cartwheeling and why do people use beach balls between their legs (Usually if they can loop)? Isn't that kinda cheating yourself?

Ash.

unless your boat has a load of water in airbags in the back do not make a difference.

the beach ball/thruster/overthruster whatever you use makes the boat go higher out the water because more volume is being shoved under. therefore making it look cooler :)

Does the 'beach ball/thruster/overthruster' help with anything else other than getting bigger air?

it will stop the eck from implodinging meaning that it will not collapse uner a load of pressure.

The airbags really only help if you wet exit and swim. They will prevent the boat from taking on it's total volume of water thus making it easier to rescue.

Beach ball, poor mans overtruster. and maybe something to do when there is 30 people in a eddy.

The beach ball is incredibly useful! basically ash, it gives you loads more air than normal on loops and also stops those massive waves we surf popping our decks when they hit and sinking us! Plus it's something to mess about with while waiting to get on the water....

I've heard various people comment on airbags effecting boat performance… insane! Assuming the inside of the boat is sealed, the only difference an airbag will make is the added (utterly negligible) weight of the nylon. You're replacing the space normally filled with air… with air!

The beachball/overthruster has an effect because is stops your deck being pushed in by the pressure of the water. But ordinary airbags, in the stern for example, couldn't possibly make any noticable difference.

Beach balls/ thruster what every you use doesn’t add volume; they just keep you from losing the volume you have. Imploding doesn’t always mean you are got it have the skirt imploding off the rim. I have and sure most of you have dipped in the green and felt the force of water pushing the skirt against your legs

Surely if the beach balll made a sizable bump in your spraydeck it would increase volume? I use a beach ball from time to time and feel that it certainly increases the amount of volume, loop attempts feel bigger anyway!

Yeah what everyone else said about the beachball...
And the airbags are just really useful for rescues, makes it easier, loads of people at my club refuse to deep water rescue paddlers if they dont have airbags.
Well, you don't wanna do your back in...:naughty:

The only time air bags make a difference is when the boats filling with water!!! The whole idea of airbags is to prevent water filling the boat in the event of capsize. And having airbags within the boat during paddling will make no difference either, weather they're in the front, back, left or right side of the boat it'll still make no difference to the performance of the boat. After-all they're only full of AIR! If your boat is pulling off to one side then i think your boat may have some sort of external deformation??!!:!:

Like i said above airbags will make no difference to the performance of the kayak, but the idea of beachballs or airbags between the legs (otherwise known as an 'OverThruster') is to add volume or prevent the deck depressing from the water pressure during vertical moves.
