not sure how cheap it will be. i believe you have to pay by the hour? theres a thread on UKRG about it with afew people saying between £20-£24 an hour.

UInfortunately the Dutch Waterdreams course is not really cheap: it's about 30 euro's per hour.

Besides the price the course has two main targets: top slalom paddlers and (company) rafting sessions. So if you're looiking for an affordable playspoto spend a lot of time boating t I'd go somehwere else. And that's from someone who lives about 25 minutes driving from Zoetermeer ;)

Anyway, on the local Dutch kanoforum (www.kanoforum.nl) there have been numerous discussions about the new course. One thing that keeps popping up is the fact that the course is quite shallow and pretty fast flowing.

Wow, that is seriously expensive:!: I'm sure the initial and running costs must be huge but 30 Euros an hour... You gotta have cash to go and paddle with your mates for 5 hours  :2cents: +:2cents: +:2cents: ......

Either 30h of paddling on artificial course or book flight to Zambezi... Tough decision :roflol:

The thing is that the DWD is not aimed at inidivual paddlers with their own gear who want to paddle or train. It is aimed at top slalom paddlers (as a training and competition facility) and to generate money for that it is aimed at corporate outings etc. as well. They aim at attracting groups of people who want a \"thrill seeking experience\" and can pay a lot of cash for it.

Lots of local paddlers are really disappointed in the prices although when they do cough up the money the slalom course is supposed to be pretty good.

BTW: it depends on the waterlevels but there is a fairly decent playspot at the river Waal near Nijmegen (Eastern part of Holland). See also this description of the local kayakclub: www.de-batavier.nl/index.html?main=http%...r.nl/ww_centrale.htm

It's probably a lot more cheaper fun to go there (when the water levels are right) or drive on to Germany than DWD for us mortal paddlers.

Woops, should have checked there first. Sorry Jeroen, I just typed quickly during my lunchbreak and used my bookmarks for information.

It is cheaper when you bring your own gear.

Friday I was unlucky to break my paddle there and injured one finger and can't paddle now for at least three weeks.

@Bart: dang, that's bad. I hope you do recover soon!

Yes, it is cheaper if you bring your own gear but not much, about 6 euro (3 for a boat, 3 for a wetsuit). If you're a member of the Dutch Canoe/Kayak Union (NKB) you can get another small discount but still you have to pay about 28 euro to paddle there with your own gear.

I just checked: a single ticket for one hour costs 34,50 euro (that's for one hour. Bring your own gear and you get 6 euro's discount. So that would be 28,50 euro. If you buy yourself a multi-hour ticket (starts at 5 hours) you pay 155 euro (ie. 31 euro per hour, minus the 6 euro discount is 26 euro per hour) or sometimes even less. But for the cheapest option (1400 euro for an 80 hour ticket) I'd rather buy a plane ticket to NZ. ;)

Yes, you're right, it is still a lot of money!! And be aware that the 5 hours multi-ticket is valid for just 6 months!
