Werner Sho-Gun vs Double Diamond 18 years 5 months ago #10837

I was wondering the pros and cons of both the Sho-gun and DD. Can only have one paddle and want a good quality one that will last and play and creek (I do both, not one any more then the other). What do people think of these paddles? Is the DD good for creeking with the smaller blade? Is the Sho-Gun to big for playing? What are the overall opinions of each paddle?

I have paddled the DD and find it to have lots of power. My friend owns, I borrowed his, and he uses it for playing and class V+ creeks. He finds it to be a great paddle for both. Really I feel if you feel that you blade is the reason you can't do something you are really fooling yourself. You are only talking about 28 sq cm difference in the blade surface area. If you can paddle them both at least for some flat play and see which one you like more. Don't forget that Werner is coming out with the Stikine for river running as well. It's not on their website yet or in the catalogue. I will check the catalogue the shop and see if we have the specs on it.

Out of those two I would get the Shogun, it's just a much nicer paddle. I had a DD and used it creeking . Great paddle but never really felt good about using it on creeks. Both of the foam core models crack easily on the power face and they are just so beautiful it makes you want to cry when they get all dinged up.
