I haven't used it but our rep has brought it in for us to see. Really it looks pretty ugly I think. I do like how the chin guard is break away via the screw mounts. This negates some of the issues people have with full face helmets. Another good option is FNA Headgear . My avatar is a picture of a custom painted XStream. Check out their website www.fnaheadgear.com I know it is a little budget but he doesn't want massive amounts of business. All of the helmets are hand laid by the owner and finished by him as well.

I've owned both helmets, and found the LP to be pretty lacking. It was big and bulky, yet managed to cut down on my visibility by a long ways. It also wouldn't stay in place on my head and was prone to sliding up and exposiing my forehead. Mine also ended up with some major warranty issues that SR failed to resolve, and I eventually gave the shell of the helmet away. I do like the EPP foam though.

I got the FNA shortly after, and was surprised at how much smaller it is, while giving 100% visibility. I don't like the closed cell foam quite as much, but it's really the only thing I wasn't psyched on about the FNA. I thought the build quality was a lot higher, Faron does seven thin layers on the helmet which makes it a lot stronger than other companies that just do three thick layers while building. I put the EPP foam from the LP into the FNA and got the best of both worlds, very happy with the FNA after extended use.

The only other full face I would look at is Sweet's new one, but with a predicted date of April from a company that is notoriously late, I'd imagine it will be out in mid summer, quite a ways away.

In short, I'd reccomend the FNA over the Shred Ready any day.

Obviously there is a large price difference, I think the major differences are that the Cascade is a plastic helmet while the SR and FNA are composite, and the Cascade uses a face cage so it will be in your visibility a little bit, where the FNA at least isn't in your vision at all.

I've had the Cascade with a facebar for several years. It's a very solid helmet.

I do have a couple of problems with it though. No matter how much I tighten the straps, it slides back and forth on my head. If I slide it all the way forward, the top touches the bridge of my nose, and the top of my neck/back of the skull gets exposed. After getting hit there a couple of times, I added a piece of foam to protect my neck. At one point, when I ran the Green for the first time, I got slammed face-first into the river-left wall on the Groove Tube. The blow got transfered right into the bridge of my nose. For a second I thought I'd broken something, and I got some red stuff coming from my nose, but in a couple of minutes it subsited, and I was okay.

I'd say - try it first. Personally, I'm thinking of getting one of those X-Streams for the next season.

Hope this helps!

Boris
