The making of a good wave 18 years 4 months ago #11238

Hi all fellow kayakers

I know for a nice river wave you need a slope for water to flow down. What I don't know is what the ground underneath needs to look like. You see, my problem is that I live near a river which has a lot of volume, but are flat and I have been scouting and looking for a nice playspot for a time now. You find holes here and there, but no nice eddies to get back in once you washed out.

I read the stuff about the guy who wants to use pumps to build a nice playspot, but i suppose there is more to a nice playspot than just water being pumped down. At ground level something has to happen to form a wave???

well find a nice spot on the river.

then choke river down

---- equal water

..... equal rocks

THat should choke down the river funneling most of the water to one spot.

THen the rocks in the middle of the \"chute\" will cause the wave/hole. The rocks on the side also should create a nice eddy. you should do this where there is some gradient to the river.
