Im a big fan of the lendal padlock paddles as once they have been tightened witht the provided allen key there is no play in the joints its solid. Normal split pin joints have play within them but can sorted with alot of gaffa tape!

Lendal will make the paddle out of any materials they offer they can be as expensive or cheap as you like and straight and crank options

I have a Werner 4 piece. It cost a lot, but has saved our group a couple of times. It is also fun to use as a playboating paddle with 0 feather.

I carry a Werner. It is heavy, because of all the joints, but as a back up all it needs to do is get you home safely. Definitly a worth while investment.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided to go with the Lendal. A four piece Werner in a straight shaft only, in any of the fiberglass blades was $280 USD without tax. The Lendal, 4 piece with the option of bent shaft with the LX blades was $293 with tax. When you tighten the Paddlock system, there is absolutely no movement. In fact, you would not know it was a breakdown until you look closely. The Werners wiggle when connected and felt loose.... Now do not get me wrong, I am not dissing Werner. :stop: My one piece is a Double Diamond, had it for 4 or 5 years and it is still bomber.

Exactly the same reason I use a lendal break down! You dont want any play in it if you are in a class 4/5 and they take alot of abuse! I will be gettin a cranked shaft for mine very soon with the adjustable length and feather option and maybe some new blades too
