Press Release: Paddler Magazine Names Glen Bernard as New Publisher
Paddler Magazine may have a new publisher, but based on my experience as a contributor to the publication is anything but conversant with the concepts of fairness, ethics and honesty.
I've been a writer for more than 30 years publishing over 1,200 articles for publications that include Outside, The Denver Post, Playboy, Audubon and The New York Times. I've had 14 books published.
I completed an article for Paddler Magazine and its Editor Wyatt Boughter. on canoing the Yellowstone River that appeared in the magazine's Nov/Dec issue.
To date I've received no payment or contributor copies; nor have I been able to contact Mr. Boughter by phone - not, away from his desk, in a meeting, etc and he has not responded to any of my emails.
I feel that you should be aware of Paddler Magazine's unethical practices and failure to pay the assignment they owe me. I've never encountered another publishing entity that has displayed such a thorough lack of professionalism, morals or responsibility.
While this may not seem to be important to readers, a magazine totally dependent on in-house generated editorial material soon dies and boring death. Outside contributors to Paddler Magazine will be few and far between in the future unless things change.
