I'm just wondering what a wave wheel actually is and how to do them (Dont shoot me if this has been asked before I'm new :P). I'm also wondering what other tricks i can do in the surf? (I'm getting to dizzy flat spinning all the time :P). I have a Bliss-stick RAD 185, once you're on the wave its great but half the fun is getting out there first.

Cheers, Andy.

awave wheel is a paddle out trick, basically its cartwheeling over a wave using the top of an unbroken wave to throw you in the air, If your looking for things to do try bottom and top turns on the face of the wave this is where you should be surfing, not spinning in the foam towards the beach.

Your boat should make wave wheels very easy if you can cartwheel it is just a matter of timing.

have fun

Thanks a lot for the tips mate. I recon I'll go and practice my cartwheels. And I'll give those top and bottom turns a go.

Cheers, Andy.

When I first saw video footage of wave wheels on rivers and the sea I thought, wow what a cool move and I automatically assumed it to be an advanced move. It is actually pretty simple.

A very basic cartwheel is all that is needed. Pick a steep, unbroken swell or wave and plant a forward stroke on the face. Same as the first half of a double pump. On edge.. :blah: Then reverse the stroke, keeping your paddle fairly parallel to the water and that last stroke almost on the crest of the wave. Follow through and look where you want to go, same as a cartwheel. Only difference is, your bow usually gets thrown down into the air over the back of the wave. Simple. The timing is really easy I find.

Try bouncing your boat too and try some blunts. Not as tough as it seems. Have fun and good luck.

I went out this afternoon for a surf, there wasn't much waves to speak of. I had a go at those top and bottom turns, was good :). I think I'll concentrate on getting my cartwheels down pat now (I've only had my bliss-stick two weeks). Once I get my cartwheels sorted I'll give wave wheels a go, cheers. :)

ive found that wave wheeling is actualy easier than carthweel, becasue you have the downward momentum of the wave to get your bow under, so its a good way to practice for flatwater. Another cool move you could do going out into the surf i sa kick flip, which is essentially a back deck roll over a wave. im not very good at them so i cant describe it better than that, but its actually not that hard.

yea it seems to me that a wave wheel is a lot easyer (i can't get cartwheeling down but i can wave wheel all day long)
