kayak roof roack 18 years 1 month ago #13750

hi i was looking through a canoe focus and saw a roof rack for kayaks which is a simple straight forward design offering locking your kayak to the roof. it was one bar with to moveable heads either side which slide up and down the bar. it was advertised with a jackson kayak. i have been looking on the internet and cant find it?

have any of you seen this device or no where to buy it?

thanks for any help

if i was you i wouldnt waste my money on such a thing i use a bike chain through the seat and onto the roof bar to keep my kayak safe and it has always worked fine for me. although there is really no way to effectively stop theft from the top of a car because if they really want your boat they could just steal your roof rack as well. but if this system you speak of can guard against this i would definately be interested.

If they REALLY want it, they can steal it with the whole car, not just the roof rack...
Seriously, some of the roof racks can be locked on to the car. Makes the whole construction a bit safer.

Be glad you don't live in South Africa mate. We officially have the third highest crime rate in the world! I'm not usually too bothered, but I don't leave the kayaks unattended generally. There's no need to. You're either paddling them, or you're camping somewhere. If you go to the shops, it's usually not a problem. Don't think they'd steal my kayak. Rather smash the window and steal my radio and CD's or the whole damn car as Dima already said:ask:

A friend moved to Boston Mass(U.S.A)3 years ago and 2 and half years ago he got a jeep and the man selling the jeep had a kayak on the roof and told him to take the kayak because he never used it,So he did but the kayak never moved of the roof and her left that jeep in some of the worst areas in Boston,I was over there last year for 3 months and i saw him when i was over and I asked him what ever happened the kayak and he said \"Ah its down the street there on the jeep\" thats 2 fulls years and it was never stolen,And it shows you how lazy this man is not to have taken it of the jeep

So I take it that the kayak wasnt worth stealing
OR
No one kayaks in Boston

I know that had nothing to do with your question,But its a good story:grin:

Thule comes from Sweden. www.thulegroup.com/en/

Great roof racks, but expensive.

I have seen a wire with a ball in the end, where you're supposed to take the wire through the grab handles in your boat and put the ends with the ball inside the doors to lock the kayaks to your roof. But they can still steal your whole car....

Is there anyone that have got their kayak stolen from the roof rack?

Chavs suck, i was on a session getting my hours for level two coach, and as we were having lunch a girl came out of the sailing club next to the centre and threw one of the boats in the canal, it floated down abot 600m around the courner so we couldent see it. We got the kid another boat thinking it had blown in and went on a journey as planed anyway. when we found the boat we had a few games and headed back to the centre. anyway my lecturer who was supervising was walking past the sailing club and heard the chavet say \"er i see thay found there fu*%ing canoe then\". he had a right go at her.
