often it's a two person job, and you need to use a large piece of plastic as a shoe horn to slide the thing past the cockpit rim. It took me a few tries to learn how to put seats in boats.

Addition of second person with strong hands who doesn't mind hearing a few cuss words does help. If you decide you need a lubricant to slide the seat in place, you can use baby shampoo or liquid dish washing detergent. WARNING: this can make things too slippery to handle, but we overcame that by drying areas to be grabbed and then using jar openner grabby things. If you do this, hose out boat thoroughly afterwards. You get some strange looks on the river if you have suds when you sponge out your boat afterwards for a few trips. Construction \"Wonderbar\" for prying and pulling nails was also used on occasion to lift seat for padding. Good Luck!
