Re:h20-2 Paddle, good or bad?? 17 years 11 months ago #15432

My friend has a H20-Team 07, and I have ordered a H20-2 07.

The team is a super nice paddle. I had a quick paddle around on the flat with an AT bent shaft, and it felt very odd in my hands. I wasn't really sure where my hands should be, and I couldn't even manage a roll (my blade kept feathering).

I picked up the H20-Team paddle, and it felt right at home straight away! It was easy to paddle with, easy to roll. The grip systems are very nice (but it's still not impossible to lose your grip on the paddle), however it is much better than other paddles I've used. The blade has great power, the grips are great, and the way the paddle is bent feels awesome!

The con's? he snapped his paddle the second time he used it (snapped the shaft on the bend). It was on a man-made course and the paddle got wedged in between two large plastic things (big plastic fake rocks I guess), and it snapped.

The paddle is still under warranty though. I can't for the life of me now find out what warranty you get with a H20 paddle, but I remember thinking it's pretty good. Apparently they are pretty good with their warranty's as well.

I think the H20's are awesome paddles. The fact that it seems more common to snap a shaft than any damage to the blades is good news for the future. If the blades are long lasting, and don't rotate etc. I'm sure it will be easier to develop a stronger shaft than to try and fix some of the other issues.

Does anybody know if the H20-2 bent shaft (07 silver one) is meant to be stronger than the H20-Team shaft (07 black one)?

Even a straight Schlegel shaft would snap if the blade was wedged between two objects...the moment would be huge... Every paddle manufacturer has breakages. It's part of the game.

The blade will not rotate. There is a 'fin' in the blade that locates into a slot in the shaft.

The silver shaft, which is the standard shaft for H20-2 blades this year is 10 % stronger and 1/6 lb lighter than last years shafts. The H20-Team shaft is a black looking shaft and is almost 20 % stronger and 1/4 lb lighter.

Neutral bent shafts will always be weaker than a straight shaft (if the weight is kept to a similar level). The gap is being bridged very quickly. Different strokes for different folks. Some people like neutral bent shafts, others hate them. Each to his/her own...

I know there is a 20% increase in strength for the 07 Team paddle compared with the 06 Team paddle. And a 10% strength increase for the 07 H20-2 paddle compared with the 06 H20-2 paddle.

The team is designed for play. The H20-2 is designed for river running. I'm wanting to know if the Team has a stronger shaft or the H20-2 has a stronger shaft. I'd want the H20-2 to be using the strongest shaft they have. However, the team is the higher priced. So in my opinion, the H20-2 should be stronger, than the Team. If not, both paddles should be using the same materials for the shaft. My guess is the Team has a different shaft so it can be lighter, not necessarily stronger.

Ah ha, I see your question. I had an H20-2 and an H20-Team shaft (2006 models) and the shafts appeared the same and I would guess that they were the same strength. I can only guess now that the increase in percentages were taken from the same base. Meaning that the H20-Team is about 10% stronger than the H20-2. I am not certain. Perhaps you should mail H20. :ask:
