That probably depends on the type of paddle you are looking at. Roughstuff also has a budget version with white glass blades and they are not as durable as the black carbon ones.

I've got a Black Magic crank shaft and I like it a lot. I've tried Werners but didn't like the feel of the shaft. The Roughstuff felt like a regular straight shaft and had a bit more flex to it. Generally this is not considered positive but I like the springy feeling, a bit wood-like.

But to know for sure if it is your kind of paddle, go out and try one ;)

Cheers,

Michiel

I've had a pair of Tempests for 7 or so years now, still going strong. Good river running blades, not great for play (maybe because mine are 90 degrees), and the older ones seem indestructible, if a bit heavy. Have heard that they're not as durable now, but haven't tried any to find out.

I own a tempest with carbon blades, i liked a lot, then 2 years ago i had a swim and i loosed it.
Then i bought a cheaper paddle (a TyWarp 11), but recently i bought back a tempest.
I like the feeling with this paddle, don't know exactly how explain but i like.
In comparison with other paddles i tried seems to be a little \"softer\" i mean not very stiff. but this is an advantage for my personal taste, it avoids to get your arms tired, specially after long runs.
Tempest blade have traditional asymmetric shape. I like it but if you are looking for extra power you can also try the kinetic model from the same manufacturer.

if you don't know, the rough stuff site is:
