I liked Corran Addisons "Legend of the Falls" talks about river running. Maby more suitable for non-beginners, although it won´t hurt any one to watch it. The latest playboating video I saw was "Retendo! The Art Of Precision Playpaddling". This is a video from before they had playboats so I don´t know appropriate it is :)

Right if your after genral river running dvd then ken whitings whitewater it goes over everything you need. Legend of the falls is awsome but is much more advanced looking at creek style paddling but they both compliment each other

Gene 17 :!: also has good instructional videos, but I think that is for when you want to go big.

I don't know if they have beginners vids as well, but the few i saw were very good. a step by step etc.

mate, EJ is the way forward, playboating basics and advanced is WICKED. Apparantly river-running basics is good to, also take a look at his other dvds like rolling, and stroke concepts

A couple points

For river running I recommend the Ken Whiting Videos, clear easy to understand explanations. I havn't seen EJ's river running but found that some of his explanations could do with some 'expansion' in his first playboating series. (Note I have not seen the new versions of the playboating series).

Then in response to the emul-share or file type thing.

Why not go out and buy the real DVD? DVDs are made by fellow paddlers who are trying to make some sort of living out of being a kayaker.
Kayak movies are produced in numbers that most movies companies would laugh at. The people making movies. EJ, Ken Whiting, Epicocity, YGP etc are investing their time & money in creating something useful or entertaining for the rest of the paddling community.
Prices of DVDs may seem high but to cover the production costs of the movies & then allow for a reasonable mark up by the stores/websites selling the DVDs (also people trying to make a living).

I guess what I'm saying is what value do you place on the information contained within the videos or music for that matter (quite a generic subject).

We are all trying to make a living in this world and who are we as individuals to take away peoples opportunities to gain some sort of living. (Whether that be living the life kayaking around the world or something else).

We're not in a multi-billion dollar industry here folks, the effect of 1 burnt paddling dvd is a lot more than burning a copy of the latest (insert popstars name here) album.

that's my rant,

that's my rant,

I couldn't agree more. The paddling scene is nothing compared to other sports. The people doing these types of movies really are small fry compared to Hollywood etc. They really aren't making big bucks at all.

If people, I'm not blaming you, copy paddling DVD's then the guys making them will effectively have a smaller audience and then what happpens. No more boating DVD's because they just don't sell enough, so we all lose at the end of the day. Support the guys that provide you with entertainment...
