I'm going to buy paddle pants. Until now, I've loaned some farmer john long wet suit pants, but I have to buy some pants of my own. When I finaly made up my mind and was going to order a Hiko Smiler wet suit, my size was sold out. Damn! But then I discovered that the Hiko Kiara Pants are the same price.

Vey well, my question is as follows: For a newbie like me, that can roll, but still swims at least once everytime I paddle, what type of pants should I buy? I need something quite warm since I sometimes paddle in early spring. What is the drawback with dry pants like the Kiara?

The dry pants. Neoprene waist and latex ankles.

Wet suit is warmer to swim in than the dry pants. If your still frequently swimming I would give you an advice to get a long john wet suit.

Thanks. OK, more warmth when swimming, thats the main thing for me, so wet suit is the way to go. From your little image (with snow), I understand that you know what you are talking about.....

I guess it is possible to get the same swimming-warmth in a pair of dry pants if u have a lot of clothes underneath, like fleece pants or something? Or maybe that will be too warm when I sit in the boat?

Dress for the temperature of the water, not the air... ;)

Yes, of course I dress for swimming. But, what I meant is this: When I paddle in my wet suit, I'm most often a bit warm, but not too bad. Swimming is also OK, not too cold. Now, if I use dry pants with insulation underneath so that swimming is OK, will I get toasted when paddling? I mean, usually U want to be as cool as possible in the boat and as warm as possible in the water.

Yes, if you dress comfortably with dry pants when staying dry you will get cold pretty fast when swimming. It's usually ok for a short swim, but if you paddling consists of regular swims it's not favorable.

The problem with dry or splash pants is that they are really not fully waterproof. When you go swimming it will eventually leak some water inside make you shiver no matter how much fleece layers you put under.
