Recommendations? 18 years 8 hours ago #15112

Hi yall!

I'm on the water now for quite a long time.
By now I'm looking for a boat that fits to me better than my dagger rpm, that i had now for way too long.
I'd like to play with it in the waves as well as in a lake for example.
On the other side I still would like to be able to run down rivers without drowning.
My weight is about 70 kg (155 lbs)
Size: about 1,80 m (5 ft 11)

I was already thinking about the Wavesport EZG 50... what about the Necky gliss?
Or even the Liquid Logic Vision 44?

I hope, anyone can give me some advise...

Thank you!
Arne

The EZG 50 is perfect for you. You should also look at the Dagger Rx 6.7. It would also be a great boat for you to try.

Gliss is great freestyle river runner, but not suitable for rodeo. I paddled Gliss on class 3-4 in Austria and Slovenia and it handles well, but has no rocker, so water flows on deck and stop you. Gliss has also low volume stern, and very catchy edges. You can easy stern squirt on every eddyline, but on the river this could cause problems.
IMHO Vision 44 will be to small for you.

Thanks for your reply.
I think so too, that the ezg might be the one for me.
The only thing is, that my buget isn't too big so I can't afford a new one.
It's pretty hard to get a used one here in Germany.

The Dagger is pretty cool but isn't rather a playboat?
What about rescueing somebody in whitewater?

There is a Dagger Kingpin Icon 6.2 in eBay right now.
What do you think about it?

Greetz...

Look for used boats on kajak.at .

If you want a freestyle riverrunner boat check out also Wavesport BigEZ, Pyranha Sub7.0 (i own one :bounce: ), Riot Turbo 52, and other boats length about 200-210 cm and volume 190-200l.

Few months ago I have similar problem with finding riverrunning playboat for 75 kilos man, was nearly decided for EZG, but read about plastic problems with Wavesports, and this definitely discourage this brand. Finally decided on pyranha 7.0, and IMHO quality is much better than Daggers, and WS.
From among other brands i would consider LiquidLogic Cross River 125, for more playboating LL POP, and for more riverrunning LL Lil'Joe

Shorter boats are better in playboating, but slower on a river. Kingpin is pure playboat, easy to throw in flatwater, but riverruning in it requires more skills.

thanks!

i found a pyranha S:6-200 at kajak.at.
what do you guys think about that?
shouldn't i be heavier the 70 kilos to get the full play potential?
what about if i come to resuce another boat in the river (via bungee-rope for example) ?

At 200 litres (53 Gal), the boat is not that big. I've got a boat of 204 litres and with me weighing in at about 86kg without any gear, I find the boat too small. The shape and volume distribution also makes a difference however. So, no. I think at 70 you should still be alright. Unless your only aim is flat water play but I doubt that.
Rescueing another boat depends on the type river/rapid etc. and also the amount of floatation in the boat being towed. Even with a creek boat, that has the speed, towing a fully flooded boat in fast current is not really possible or very safe, depending of course. From what I've heard, the boat is sweet. But hey, what do I know ;-)

Hi,

If you can't find anything decent in Germany, try to look over the border ;)

This is the site of a large Dutch kayak company (located just above Amsterdam) with a list of second hand and last year's models:

www.kanokoopjes.nl/kanokoopjes/index.php?ac=show&cat=4

If you plan to go there, just give them a call to make sure they won't sell the boats you would lik to try.

I paddle a Fluid Flirt medium, if you're heading for Holland you're welcome to give it a try. I think it will be on the big side for you but you never know until you try.

Good luck at finding yourself a nice boat!

Cheers,

Michiel

try a jackson all star. you could easily boss it around on the flat and on white water. you can pick up decent all stars for as less as £350 now. great boat i thouroughly recommend it. if you want something less playful the fun or a liquid logic CR125/250
