Choosing a Kayak 17 years 11 months ago #15169

I am 19 years old, 6 foot, 170lbs, and am looking for a whitewater kayak. I am looking for a good river runner that is capable of surfing, and having fun in playholes. I have kayaked before and am looking for something between intermediate and advanced. I will be using it mostly for class 3 and 4 rapids with a few 5s. I am wondering what size kayak would be good for my size. What length would be good for me. I was thinking about the Pryanha H3 or perhaps a Wavesport. List any websites to get good white water kayaks as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever kayaked before on a river? In a plastic whitewater boat or something else?

The H3 won't be good for surfing waves and riding holes.. They have other good boats. I am not that familiar with them. 4-Twenty? Not sure

From Wave Sport -> The EZG60 is great. I've got one and love it. Very forgiving and can still play nicely. Cartwheels are smooth and can still aerial blunt with ease but needs a bigger wave than a full on play boat. I find the plastic suspect though.

I have a 2003 pyranha i3 221 that is a good all-rounder. It runs rivers well, but isn't a serious play/rodeo boat. I think the ammo is pyranha's current version of the do-anything boat.

Nah the Stretch is Pyhrana's new i:3 and i:4.
Unlike the i:3 and i:4 you can't cartwheel it for sh** :( Kinda disapointing, more of a river-runner/ smaller creeker.
Ahhhh well.

Ya the h3 is not going to be good playing, but you could check out the either the super fun, or the 4fun. Also i dont know much about it but the recoil from phyrana is another boat that you might check out. But make sure you demo. DEMO DEMO DEMO!

Yeah, i totally agree with kid kayaker. Jackson all the way. Much better performance and comfort wise than pyranhas and everything else. 4 fun and super fun are great boats and will let you do everything on the river. just make sure you get the right size. get down to your nearest dealer and demo ASAP!!!
