Seven 2 paddles 17 years 11 months ago #15498

Seven 2 has recently come into my shop and shown us their paddles in hopes that we would sell them. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with any of their paddles including the touring ones?

They tried to release them over hear in the UK after the outdoor show where many people bought them only to find that after a few weeks of paddling they fell apart the grips slid on the shaft the blades delaminated. This was last year and there not on the shelfs in many if any shops around britain. The customer service was not great in this country it may be better in the US (i hope so) but I would not touch them with a barge pole

I have heard that the grips always end up slipping and rotating on the shafts, not good. The shaft is very strong and I've seen one being bent quite a bit and my mate says he saw Steve Fisher bend his till the blades were parallel to each other. The blades themselves feel good in the water and I like it but I don't trust the contruction. My mates is delaminating... My :2cents:

hmm, adrian exaggerates a little... there are indeed some photos of steve fisher where they bend quite a bit, but that's suposed to be a feature, not a bug :)

the idea is that the shaft is rather soft and that's supposed to be better for your joints. steve is spnsored by them, but i'm sure steve could get sponsored by any other paddle brand of his choice, so they can't be that bad.

i have owned 2 different models and never had any quality problems with them. they were just too soft for my personal taste, and i prefer a simple straight shaft, where i can put my hands on any part of the shaft, not just on some predefined grips.

i think they do look very sexy though, but that's a matter of taste. i've overheard some others laugh about my 'toothbrush' :)

The ones that he bent were much older models, a good coupla years, in fact. These days the shaft is flexible but not as much as it used to. I use Seven2 and i have never had any problems with them. Although i have heard that it depends on the batch that come out - you can get a bad batch and the paddles will break with in two outings or you can get a set from a good batch and it will last - had my one set for 2 years now and i own a newer pair that has taken a hammering and is still going strong, i guess i was lucky twice.

It seems like not too long ago, there was a thread similar to this that basically ended up in everybody trashing 7-2's. You could probably fid it if you searched through old forums.

Maybe this one:

or here:

Oh well. It's such a shame that their quality is so random. The smaller diameter shaft is an awesome idea. They started the so called 'skinny' masts in windsurfing a couple of years back. Quite successful. The hand grips are very cool on the Seven-2's. H20's are also awesome, giving plenty grip, control and at the end of the day, confidence.

Thanks for the reply's. I had heard all of that before but I wanted to check to see if there was a change in the design. It will be interesting to talk to the owner, who came to visit us, and see what he says about the feedback we have got from the community. This is not the only forum that we have posted on asking about the paddles and they all have the flavour of this thread.

That's a real shame. Hopefully their quality is on the rise.
