Yet another Kayak H:3 Question 17 years 11 months ago #15657

I have rented a couple of Kayaks and have taken a few lessons and have decided that it is time to finally buy one.
I am currently looking at a H:3 from MEC.

I am 6 foot 3 and insanely skinny. I weigh about 145 pounds.
I like to play around on any type of water, but also will have to use it on flat water when i'm not around and rivers, creeks ...
I'm not skilled enough for class three rivers.
I'm looking for a boat thats fun but good to develop skills on but isn't a tank in the water.
(I might seem a bit picky but I dont have much cash (i'm still in High School) for a Kayak so I want to get the right one)

Currently i'm pretty much limited to Pyranha models - any suggestions on other modles I should look at or comments on the H:3?
Thanks

I have a 245 sync 6 version it works really well, I use it mainly for white water and teaching from. flat water due to its length its not as slow as the playboats and comfy enough for over night trips. On a play wave it surfs well due to flat hull will spin blunt etc and cartwheel (in the right hands) I have got a few wave wheels out of mine in the alps.

The H3 is very agile boat and easy to control and is predictble. The extra volume helps keep it on the surface of drops etc when you get there, ultimatly it is a very good boat to start from.

If you are after a more playful fun boat then check out the Stretch which is a river running play boat, or the Seven-O or Recoil as these are more playful and will let you muck about on flat water, white water whatever.

Wow, thanks for the reply. I went shopping today at MEC and found a cheap (new) pyranha burn. It's the newer version of the H:3. So far I love it. I haven't taken it out yet - that's next weekend. So far all the trouble I have had is to decide if I should remove the solid footrest and replace it with foam.

I also was able to get all of my outfitting, I can't wait
Thanks again for the input - it was really helpful
I'm really curious to what I can make the burn do

The foam block that came with the boat should stick onto the plastic full plate in the boat if your legs are long then use the small plate, or if the bigger one fits well then use that insted you do not want any gap around your foot rest for toes to dissapear behind etc. I hope you have fun the burn is a lovely boat

Thanks, I forgot about that part. I switched the foot plates - that took forever (couldn't get the screws undone), I compeletly forgot about the foam block.

Well I got the foam insert to fit, I have just one question in the two bags I got there were 8 smallish thin foam pads, square on one end and curved on the other - where would I use them for padding?
