Streches/Exercieses 17 years 10 months ago #15840

I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips for how to strech and exercise to get in better kayaking shape?

Is it just the usual, push ups sit ups, hamstring stretches etc? or are some better than others?

Yoga is good, as it lets you work on all muscles and improves your supplness, which in turn lets you gain more from your paddling.

This site has some ideas: www.paddling.net/guidelines/showCategory.html?category=26 . Personally I get nervous about messing up my shoulders so I'm trying to do some rotator cuff exercises with a resistance band.

Both?! How did he manage that? I've dislocated my right shoulder eight times in the past… but both… that must be ridiculously debilitating?

It was we were coming out of a rapid and two of us just went through we turned around to make sure they got through ok and he took a spill. hit his first shoulder on some rocks and he wet exited and then hit his other shoulder on another batch of rocks. We got him to shore and his boat and paddle and the guy that was behind him also had a yard sale in the rapid. so we were pulling boats and paddles out at the same time. We were on the side of the river for close to 2 hours and nobody even asked if we needed help. We got them popped back into place and got him to the other side of the river where the road was and we called it a day.

Wow, sounds bad. Did he make it to shore by himself with both shoulders out?
