Hi dolly,
the flatwater helix, one of the most simple moves yet hard to get your head round. If you have Ken Whiting's Playboating check it out under the helix section on wave moves. otherwise here is an explanation, helixing on the right:
1. paddle in a straight line (12 O'Clock) at a medium speed
2. initiate by using a back sweep to pull your bow to (3 O'Clock)
3. immeadiately after this turn your back sweep into a front sweep and throw your boat over.
4. If sucessful you should see your bow whizz over your head and you will then feel wet!!! roll up with your next blade. If you ever get the chance to do this on a wave first initiate a light bounce by shifting your weight backwards and forwards and then use a stern rudder to go into step 2 instead of paddling in a straight line. These actions create an aerial helix which is seriously cool!!!!
If you need any more help don't hesitate, i know how to do most moves.
Tom
HAVE FUN!!!!

That phonix monkey isnt really one. Its more of a pirloette and then a loop the way he does it.

look at my post further up or check out ken whiting's dvd.
the Flatwater helix really is just 3 things:
1. Back sweep (boat flat)
2. Forward sweep (edge agressively into this so you flip over)
3. Roll UP!!!!
If will make a vid soon..........

Just curious, is it the same strokes etc. to do the helix on a wave? except I guess you try and get your boat in the air before you do the backsweep as opposed to just paddling forward, right?

yep sure is...
you just want to initiate your bounce facing 11o'clock for a left helix or 1 0'clock for a right helix bgth towards a shoulder. It only has to be a small first bounce then turn a rudder into a backsweep, throw yourself downstream but try to keep the boat flat. then when you feel your bow 'catching' turn your backsweep into a frontsweep and your helixing!!!! [Very FAST] You also need a decent size wave...
