rpm with floatbags? 17 years 9 months ago #16635

I was out paddling yesterday in my rpm, just doing some river running and nocited that my nose tends to dip in flatwater, and causes a lot of wake. when i got the boat the guy threw in a set of floatbags, but i cant figure out how to get them to fit. there is not much room in front of the boat, and there is a foam brace that goes all the way back behind the backband. any ideas how i should put these in for a little more floatation? or even if it can be done

I actually just picked up a RPM the other day (my first boat :) ) and the guy included the float bags. As far as I know, you can only install them in the stern, on either side of the foam support.

Give me a few minutes and I'll go snap some pictures for you...

Heres a pic with one of the bags laid outside the boat - - they fit rather nicely along either side of the support in the stern

But to answer your original question... and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but putting float bags inside your boat won't affect its natural buoyancy and how it sits in the water, rather it'll just keep it afloat in the event you capsize

sweet thanks! ill try it out today and see. seems like they would only fit in the stern, and even if it did only effect floatation if i flip, having them in the stern wouldnt really change the height of the bow

Float bags normaly only go in the stern. Thay prevent your boat from sinking in case of a swim. thay wont affect how the boat sits in the water or padles. moveing the seat back will bring the bow up but it's dificult or next to imposable in an RPM.

Adding float bags to the boat will only help keep it afloat should the kayak become flooded. skirt imploded or swim... still good to have them and some places wont let you paddle without them...

word. i got it all set-up. really made emptying the boat out after roll practice a lot easier (doesnt fill with as much water).
