You might look at the Riot Endeavor. It has a rod holder in the back but is really a nice recreational kayak with a skeg.

ya i really like the design of the Riot endeavor, but i dont really need a rod holder, or one that has any ability other than holding it not using it to fight a fish. since the local artifical East Race whitewater course is a 2 rating and they can change the speed of the water, i think the endeavor is a good choice but any other reccomendations would be appriciated.

You're really light for your size, but you might want to look at the LL Remix XP9 or XP10. Here's a review: shopgetoutdoors.com/blog/2008/11/20/revi...-liquid-logic-xp-10/ .

Its has some good reviews, has anyone had any experience with the 8.5. O and what about the Diesel series?

I would stay away from Dagger and Wave Sport. The plastic has not been very good, and the Mamba 8.5 weighs the same as the Dagger Green Boat at 50 lbs., even though it is over 3 ft less in length. The LL Remix 59 or 69 may work better for only whitewater, since they are fast, stable, and manueverable. Go to Boatertalk or craigslist to find a boat. A Prijon Chopper or Prijon Embudo would probably also suit your needs well.

I would suggest a used Pyranha Innazone. I got one for my girlfriend and it's a good begginer to intermidiate boat. Just don't go for a total begginer boat because you will out grow the boat fast and then have to buy a new one for playboating. that was my expirience at least. I out grew my in one season. But the new Pyranha's are good too deppending on what you want to spend. May get schooled a little more in the beggining but wont have to fork over another $800. -$1000. bucks the next year.

Jackson Fun series will keep you boating all the way up to class IV. Their plastic is great as well as all of the outfitting. It takes right about 5 minutes to get the boat outfitted. Check em out. www.jacksonkayak.com. A Jackson Hero is a great boat as well.

If they are available in your area try and demo a Fluid Spice, for your weight a medium or large should be good. Have a look at Adrian T's page Lekker Kayaking for review and info.
Very good all round kayak.

Re:Newbie needs help 15 years 9 months ago #26866

I have to say that all of the boats suggested are great but as a semi-fanatic play boater I have to suggest a hybrid (if you know what i mean)

the boat that I would like to suggest is a Dagger RX, because it is a great boat that has a quick hull and is generally a little slimmer and longer than the typical play boat, however as I have used one before it is great for river running (I paddle the Gull in Canada which has some fun play spots as well as is good for river running) but can also be used for some fun playboating

check it out if you would like, but that is my suggestion :)
