Lifestart and AROC Sport are joining together to make miracles happen for special kids who need your help. On Sunday 30 March 2008, hundreds of paddling crafts of all shapes and sizes will line up on the Manly Wharf, getting ready to dash towards Sydney Harbour!
This event is open to anyone, from the competitive solo surf skier, to the occasional sea kayaker, the obsessive outrigger paddler, down to the complete novices with the relay option in very stable 3-person sit-on-top kayaks (provided). Corporations are invited to sign up teams and help raise funds for Lifestart, an early childhood intervention program for children with intellectual disabilities or delays in development including Autism and Down Syndrome. Lifestart helps these children reach their potential.
Established in 1996, Lifestart, a not-for-profit organisation, provides a community based program managed by families, for families working with professionals such as speech pathologists, occupational therapists and special educators. This is one great opportunity to help a vital cause while having a great time on the water paddling in an iconic location with views on the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. It’s only one day for you but a better lifetime for them.
The course meanders along the North shore of the Sydney Harbour, leaving from Manly and heading to Lavender Bay past the Harbour Bridge. It consists of 8 legs of around 4Km each, which can be paddled separately by relay teams or as one stretch for the more competitive individual paddlers. Prizes will be awarded to the solo and team relay category winners and to the best fund-raising teams.
Race entry opens online on Monday 15 October 2007.
