Costa Rica - getting boats there or renting. 17 years 8 months ago #16924

trying to find out some info on Costa Rica and have discovered that the most reasonable airline (money wise) for traveling with is not somm reasonable for carrying boats. (AA)

So, the choices are limited; either go with this airline and rent or go with another airline and pay more.

Anyone got any ideas? Traveling from Ireland but will be going through UK.

Read the 'blue part' in this article I wrote:

It has to do with flying with boats, from my limited experience, but hopefully it's useful. If British Airways flies to Costa Rica it will be worth your while. ;) Good luck.

I would go with the cheap airfare. Take all of your other gear that you would need and a weeks worth of clothes, then stuff it all in one carry on backpack.

Take the money you saved on the airfare and buy a 4 piece breakdown (if you don't already have one) so you have a reliable travel paddle.

You are allowed two pieces of carry on luggage. That way you do not have to wait on checked bags at the destination airport. Plus that is a long way to travel and have something lost.

A 4 piece paddle counts as a carry-on. Mine fits into a Therma-rest stuff sack.

Where most of the kayaking is done, there are plenty of places to rent boats. While there is something to be said for traveling with boats, there can also be ALOT of hassles travelling with them.

In the town of Turrialba, check out Costa Rica Rios They are nice people and have an extensive fleet to rent from.

Just my .02
