Flirt Spice Fun 17 years 8 months ago #17062

I am a beginner to intermediate paddler and I have been doing some research on what would be the best boat for me to get. I have paddled one of my friends for a while now and want to get my own. I am 6'3\", weigh 165 lbs., and have size 13.5 feet, so it might be difficult to find a boat for my size.

I am going to be running rivers, but probably playing a lot of the time. I want a
playboat that is capable of running rivers well. The Fluid Flirt medium seems to be ideal, but i wonder about the ease of rolling the Flirt, as my roll is far from good. The Jackson Fun also seems ideal but I am in between sizes in it. The Fluid Spice seems to be a decent boat, but I wonder how playful it is.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have a friend who is maybe a touch taller than you and about the same weight. He paddles a medium Fluid Flirt and fits in no worries.

The Flirt is more playful than the Spice, no question. That's the way it was designed after all. It depends on your skill but you can run some challenging water in a Flirt. If your skill is less and you want to venture onto rivers that challege you, then get the Spice. But you said you want to be playing most of the time... So the Flirt possibly. It is easy to roll. By way of design, a play boat will always be harder to roll than a boat with a more rounded cross section such as a displacement hull found in many creek boats.

You should try them out and then decide. That's the best way to really know.
