How's the paddlers range works? 17 years 8 months ago #17071

Can someone give me any explanation as to why when I compare the Dagger GT 7.8 which hannded my ass to me the other month with the fluid spice large which is smaller in length width and volume 68 Gal verses 61. then why is the GT paddlers range 41kg to 82kg and the spice is 70 - 110kg? i'm 6.1'' and 95kg so i know why my mates 7.8 drilled me but why is the fluid rated to a hevier paddler?:frustrated:

The weight ranges do not correspond exactly to the volume of a boat. To a certain degree yes, but don't forget to look at other factors like hull length, how high is the parting line of the boat, rocker, where is the volume mostly situated, what is the boats intended purpose? These are more important factors.

The designers stipulate a recommended weight for the purpose of the boat. If you are way over the weight limit. Your river runner will suddenly become rather playful and if you are way too light for the boat you'll find it a good river runner but not very playful. Of course it's hard to speculate and generalise and being either side of the weight spectrum might not be the greatest idea. Afterall, if you wanted a river runner to perform like a river runner then you would want to stay in the range.

The large Spice is very large. I felt like a kid inside at 6 foot and 85 kg. You'd be fine for it. Ideal for tall people too. There is loads of foot room. Try it out, maybe it's for you, maybe not.. ;)

Ha. i think that some of the manufacturers smoke crack before deciding on their boats carrying capacity.
I've seen 87 kg paddlers turning a boat rated for 104 kgs into a submarine.

Surely it's more a guesstimate sysytem, with a healthy dose of wishful thinking, than an exact calculation?
