Just paddled the drago squashtail and loved it. Coincidentailly, I'll be in Amsterdam soon and I was wondering if I might save some money buying this boat in Europe and flying it back to California. I was hoping someone on this board might be able to link me to a dealer in the Netherlands, and save me the research time; or if anyone knows what dragoboats are currently selling for in Europe that would be appreciated as well.

I've priced this boat new in the states and know my options here, hoping maybe a new one is cheaper over there.

You've seen my website, right?

Drop me an email because I'm selling off some stock to get ready for next season

as far as Amsterdam goes, it might be best to get on the Dragorossi.net message board or just email the factory directly. Let me know if I can help you any other way.

yeah, I like your prices so far... 799 for a shell with a seat, right?

however, I've seen these boats (new) go for less at times, just wondering if someone over there needs to clean up their inventory as well ;-)

Drago's site is less than helpful-BTW

always on the hunt for a bargain...

Hi,

Cant see how it would be cheaper for you to a get a boat in europe, the dollar is not at its best for you purchasing something here, great for us though with 2 bucks to the pound. 1 usd = 1.4 euro that and you will have to pay more to get it on a flight home and I bet you will be clobbered with some kinda tax when you get home. I would research this and make sure. You could end up paying more.

I would go so far as to say, you WILL pay FAR more if you get a boat direct from Europe. I have no idea what the USA's laws are for imports but I'd bet my bottom dollar that the percentage on the value of the item, plus the shipping involved would far outweigh the price you can get it locally.

I bought a dry top this year for myself and Scott Reinders and we were nailed on import tax. The law is the law. They do that to protect the dealer, like Scott Barnes. Otherwise any tom, dick and harry could just get anything they like, from whoever, for cheaper and then sell it in their country and make a profit. Who said making money was that easy? ;-)

Just buy one from Scott!  Just my humble :2cents: Good luck mate. Over and out.

I'm sorry but chances are less than nihil you'll be able to buy a Squashtail in Holland (unless second hand). Arend Bloem used to sell DragoRossi (and Jackson) but does not anymore. He sold his last few Drago boats in a sale for cheaps and that was the end of it.

I'd say go for Scott's offer: it's a lot easier and less hassle

if you find a used boat while in Europe, it might be easy enough to pass it off as your own when you fly back, and even if you claim it as somethying that you bought, a used boat (being less expensive) would obviously be less of a tax burden than a new one. Obviously it's still worth looking into. You never know what you will find.

As far as what I have in stock, it's mostly yellow boats. I think I have one red one too.

Let me know if you find something. If not, we can work something out for you with a reasonable price.

Re:Squashtail in Amsterdam? 17 years 8 months ago #17270

I just noticed that Arend Bloem (one of the 2 biggest kayak stores in the country, located just North of Amsterdam) has a second hand DragoRossi Stinger for just under 300 euro's.

If you buy that and sell it after paddling it around here you could end up with a nice cheap option. Bringing it home is always risky, although you probably could pass this one off as your own boat easily because it has been used. But don't take my word for it, especially if the persons checking your luggage knows diddly about kayaks ;)
