Newbie did his homeworks but, still need advice. 17 years 8 months ago #17393

Ok I had posted the same question a few days ago and posted a way to long list of boats for people to bother trying giving an answer... I think...

But, hey I had just came back from my first Kayaking lessons and was all exited... I wanded it for like the day before if you know what I mean.

Now after reading many reviews an comparing and eliminating from my original list, my head is spinning and my eyes are hurting.

Me and my GF are looking for our first boats, we'd like to river run but, there's not to many fast rivers near buy and since we live near BIG waves on the St-Lawrence river (Montreal, QC, Canada) and we'd like to paddle as often as possible, we'd also like boats that will surf and play quite well as, at first, it's mostly what we'll be able to do...

ME: 150 Lbs., 5`10\", 30.5\" inseam & size 10,5 shoes
HER: 125 Lbs., 5'2\", 29\" inseam & size 7 (women) shoes.

These are the models that i picked and that happens to be available used near where we live.

RIOT:
Booster 50
Trickster
Turbo 47
Disco

NECKY:
Mission

I know I still have 4 boats of the RIOT brands but, they are all very close, spec-wise, on paper at least and they all have good reviews so, I'm a bit confused, they knda all fit in my description of what we'd like...
We will go and put our butts in each of them to see which is the most confortable for each of use but, a few personnal experiences would be apreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not all to fond of any of those boats. Well the disco was sweet but its kinda out dated. I thought your last list had a Fun on it?

I think Turbo is still one of the best boat to surf big and fast waves out of the normal playboats. And since your looking for something to surf in I think it might be a good choice. However, it might not be the most unforgiving in river running...

booster is desinged as riverrun kind of biginners boat.
disco is a great versitali boat but a bit old

trickster is riverrun/play

mission and turbo are playboats.

I would not want any of them if I where you.
Perhaps it is wise to go to corran adison:

he is the owner of:
2Imagine Store
1320 Charlevoix
Montreal QC H3K 3A3
Canada

And his left foot knows more about paddling then I.
(I am paddling for 20 years)

What I know of lachines or habitat (the waves) I think you need first learn to roll.
ALmost every riverrunner these days will surf well. as long as they have a flatt bottom.

try to gat something like liljoe or perhaps inazone

Does Corran sell used boats, I don't realy have the budget for new stuff right away.

And I still need to get to know what I like in a boat's behavior, since I've paddled only twice so, I don't realy want to put to much on my first boat.

I did learn how to roll but, I intend to practice in a pool all winter.

Thanks.

I do not know what corran sells, but what do know is that he can give you a bettter advise then I think evereybody here.

why:
he knows the places you want to paddle,
he knows the boats.
( i think he has designed at least 2 of your shortlist)
He can have a look at you that helps also a lot.
he can give you advise where to paddle.

Perhaps he will try to get you on a riverboard:)
