TOPIC:

too heavy? 17 years 7 months ago #18132

I recently purchased an EZG 60 with plans of some riverrunning, but more palyboating. So far i have been paddling on flatwater and a very small wave.

I have been trying to get into a bow stall but i can't. I've tried the double pump and the plowing ender to no avail. I've filled my boat up with water and tried but I still cannot get into a bowstall. On the wave I have been able to get my bow down a little farther , but not anywhere near vertical (the wave is only about a foot tall).

It's possible that I am too light to do any freestyle moves whatsoever:
I only weigh 170 and the minimum for the boat is 180, but all the boats in my weight range are too small since I am 6'3\" with size 13(US) feet.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Since your a lighter boater, naturally it is going to be harder for you to throw your boat where you want it to go. If I were you, I would demo boats to find the smallest boat i could fit in for play boating. Double pumping takes forever to learn if your a beginner and such a high volume boat will only make it harder. Plowing into a bow stall however, is even harder. It just takes time to learn, so don't get frustrated.
Good Luck,
Joe

I paddled an EZG60 for almost a year. I sold it recently. I am 6 foot and 85kg (185 lbs) So I'm a little heavier than you. I could easily do many flat water ends in the boat, get into a bow stall and also flat water loop. On a wave I needed a bigger wave to do aerial blunts though. The boat was very easy on flat water and an excellent river runner too.

You shouldn't have any problems once your technique is down. I started play boating in a Wave Sport Big EZ and I could not get the boat vertical. I could not get it into a bow stall via the double pump or with a plowing ender. At that stage I couldn't do any of those moves but I was trying and trying and starting to blame the boat. Eventually I got it right and never looked back. It was me and not the boat... ;)

No doubt that the EZG60 has a fair amount of volume but with the right technique you will get it right. Maybe try on someone else's boat that is a bit smaller to get the whole idea first. And don't forget, practise makes perfect! And lot's of it.

If your main aim was river running then you'd be 'A' for away but you say you want to do more playboating. Perhaps you should have gone for the smaller version, the 50 gallon. It would have been easier to throw around and quicker on end in a hole and more lively. Just my :2cents:

Good luck.
