Help wanted 17 years 7 months ago #18216

I have just bought a second hand Riot Dominatrix 44 Kayak, I am 6ft tall and weigh approximately 165lb, but on getting the kayak home I cannot actually get in it.

I have adjusted the seat right back as far as it will go, but I just cant quite get my knees under the cockpit.

Has anyone got any ideas, to further adjust the seating position or tell me what I am doing wrong, I know I must be doing something stupid, but it is really anoying me.

Please Help

John

Well besides trying getting in it before you buy it. Here is how I was taught to get in a kayak. Sit on the cockpit rim behind the seat. and then slide your right leg in position. then slide down into the seat while putting your left leg in posistion.

Maybe your foot blocks could be made a bit smaller. That is another way to add space.

Make sure you are either barefoot or wearing socks.

Make sure your feet are positioned in a V with the heels coming togther.

Thanks for the advise, I would have tried before I bought, but it was an ebay purchase and was delivered to work. I researched it before hand and found that there are many 6ft paddlers with this kayak so I thought I would be ok.

I think if I could get the footrest out from the bottom, I would get the extra inch or two I require. Any ideas how to get the foot rest out, I have got the foam wedge out dut cant seem to get the plastic foot rest pst the posts for the grab handles?

You could saw it out . make sure you atleast have some foam in there or you will be very uncomfortable.

Is this plastic footrest the model that you can adjust with a ratchet near the seat? I had one on my Tekno and I removed it by taking out the front pillar and lift the ratchet so you can remove the plastic strip from the ratchet. Put the front pillar back but while you have it out anyway, perhaps you can remove a bit where your ankles are (so you can put you ankles together instead of against the front pillar). That should give you another bit of extra space.

My 2 cents,

Michiel

PS If it does not work out, you can always consider making a C-1 out of it ;)
