Hey, it really depends on if you want to go new or secon hand:

New: Jackson Star/Allstar
Jackson 2Fun/Fun
Wavesport Project 45
Pyranha Recoil S
Riot Astro 54
Dagger RX
Dagger Agent 6.0
LL Ronin

Secondhand
Pyranha Inazone 222
Pyranha Sub 7/ S6
Wavesport ZG 48
Dagger Kingpin/G-Force/Crazy 88
Riot Air 45
Lots more...

It's really a case of trying things out, getting as many demos as possible, although the ZG is a lovely beginner playboat!

If you want a playboat everyone seems to forget the 4twenty that is a great Pryanha playboat. If you want to go a little retro you could go with a S6 or a S6F. They are all three good playboats in my mind. Though you should worry about the learning curve if you are starting out in a Playboat. I would suggest starting out in a Playboat/Riverrunner just so you dont get thrashed your first couple of times out on the river.

Just wondering: how easy is it to buy Pyranha in the USA? It is a big brand in the UK, I know. But it would seem to me that it is way easier to get the US brands overthere?

If you are just starting to get into kayaking you probably want to go for a boat that is not an all out playboat, if you buy 2nd hand first of all to get the basics sorted and then go for a playboat. I had a Pyranha 7-o and then i bought a jackson allstar.

Yeah, river-running playboats are probably a better idea, they give you a lot of potential in learning to play, but are more stable and forgiving. The likes of Jackson Funs, Wavesport EZGs, Pyranha recoil/sub 7s, LL crossrivers, Dagger RXs etc. might be a good place to start!

It is pretty easy to buy a Pyranha kayak in the USA. But My view might be sceiwed because I live near the Largest Pyranha Dealer in the US. (Whitewater Wharehouse.

I have lived in Asheville, NC and now live in Oregon. I am finding it easy to get pyrahna boats on the west coast, just as easy as getting them on the east coast.

Crossriver should be fine, but definately get it out on the water before you buy, just in case you're a bit big/ don't like the colour etc.

Pyranha...

Re:new kayak 17 years 9 months ago #18443

You're at the very bottom of the weight range for the CR125, so flatwater moves may not be that easy. No problem in a hole, but on the flat...maybe. It's slicey-ish so you should get it, but the learning process might be a bit frustrating.

Again, Pyranha (bwahahahaha)

Go get a Wavesport EZ and be done with it. Or go get a Jackson 4fun. Or a Pyranha 4twenty
