TOPIC:

pyrahna 4 twenty 17 years 6 months ago #18379

I have been struggling with finding a boat that that is a good fit for me for many years. I finally found the fit with the pyrahna 4twenty. This boat is comfortable to be in for long periods of time, and functions well.

Stats: 5'9\" and 155 lbs. Boating for ten years.

Previous boats: pyrahna micro 230, riot 007 & disco, liquid logic session, pocket rocket, space cadet, & vision 44, bliss-stick rad 175, necky orbit fish.

The pyrahna 4twenty is balanced with 46 gallons, and is not too big to throw around, and not too small to get air in. With the bigger volume boats I was getting a lot of pressure on my shoulders during freestyle moves. Boats that were low volume were easy to throw around, but allowed for smaller aireal manuevors.

I will add that I am adding an overthruster on the pyrahna 4twenty to give a little more umphh. Other than that the stern has a little more volume than I am used to, but nothing that cannot be compensated for. Chartwheels are effortless, and stalls are easy too. I am probably going to stay with pyrahna for a bit.

The Pyrahna 4twenty is a really comfortable river runner IMO.

i have been looking for a new boat for a while now. would you recommend the pyranha 4twenty to someone who used to paddle an inazone and wants something abit more fun and able to play on flatwater and still run rivers?

It depends, Pyranha 420 M-L should be ok, but smaller one has not much volume in stern, and I end quite often backending. Try something longer like Jackson Funs, or older Pyranhas like SevenO.

ps. Pyranha rocks! :notworthy:

I have not paddled the pyrahna inazone series, and I do recommend the 4twenty series as a playful river runner for those who are comfortable running rivers in a playboat. Of all the playboats I have paddled in the last few years, 4twenty has more volume in the stern. I notice this when doing cartwheels and stern stalls.

In my experience, pyranha playboats in general have been fairly poor river runners. If you're looking for a better performance plauboat with some river running capabilities, I would suggest a project or star series. Just my:2cents:

I purchased one of these boats the other day after my long search for a good playboat.

I can quite safely say that its a amazing boat and I think pyranha are going back to the old school looks.

I have the s-m and i dont seem to suffer. I think to be honest its what weight you are to find the differance. It seems weird cus the s-m is about 1 gallon less or something stupid.

Anyways enjoy the boat I know I will
