I'm going to buy a new buoyancy aid soon. I need one that is good for both river running and freestyle. I've been looking at the HF Serpent and the Yak Descent. Has anyone any views or any other suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard good things about the HF vest. Personaly I use Astral Aquavest 300R Rescue which I like very much. Even though my west is one size too big it´s not in my way when I paddle, and stays on when I´m taking a beating.

Is bouancy aid just another term for life jacket/PFD?

the serpants really nice so is the astral systemx are importing both to the uk try them both out. Astral is going through the silly CE tests so should be here soon hopefully. Or my personal favourite the peak uk river vest. Its the same cut as there freestyle vest but with a fronts pocket which folds flat, knife pocket and chest harness and is around £110

I've been using the Astral 300 Rescue vest recently and like it a lot. I've also used the HF serpent, PeakUK vests and Palm vests. Not too sure about the yak though? They are all great life jackets with enough floatation and a good fit. Try them all on in the shop and go for the one which is the best fit or has the best pocket set up for you. If you still can't decide go for the one which colour coordinates with your boat!

Be safe out there and happy paddling.
