Hi all,
My folks recently moved to Moscow and while i still live in South Africa i will be spending a considerable amount of time in Russia during the coming years.
I'm looking for contacts, particularly those that can speak a bit of english as i know all of two words in Russian, or just some ideas on the regions that are best for whitewater so i can begin research (i know its a big country so places closer to the west rather than Siberia would be better).

Thank you in advanced

Scotty R

Hey there Scott!
What brought your folks to Russia? Business, jobs?
Funny enough, I actually grew up in Moscow... though I don't live in Russia any more.
Any way, try this site - www.newgen.spb.su/community/ - there are some e-mails of the NewGen team.
The guys look the business, they travell quite a bit, so should be able to communicate in English. Think they are based in Sant-Petersburg, but probably will put you in contact with paddlers in Moscow.
In any case, if you need some translations, or want to know what some internet site has to say (in russian  ) - feel free to ask.
Be warned, the water there is quite bit colder then on the Zambezi... :roflol:
Cheers,
D

The newgen posse often travels to Finland, Neitikoski to paddle. If your staying for a longer period of time you should make an effort and come to paddle some stiff white water at Sweden and Norway :)

I'll be at the Nile the first half of December. We can make some plans ;)

Thanks guys...

D, i spent a year in Canada so i know what to expect but its been nearly 2 years since so the cold will definately be a shock to the system. Anyways, my ol' man took up a job with great benefits for traveling family.
Thank you for the help and i may call on you for translation in times to come.

Tuomas, we must definatey get chatting in Uganda. I'll be super keen to plan a trip in Scandinavia. i've been wanting to hit Norway since the day i started paddling, and i heard Sweden is full of big volume.
But first we gotta give you a taste of big volume African style, and introduce you to the \"Cain Train\" :puke:

Cheers boys,
Scotty R
