Folks

I'm now in the market for a nw set of blades
After looseing my Roughstuff Blackmagic cranks :(

I was looking at the riot premiers, but will have to wait till april before i can get them
So does anyone have any advise for me
The blades will be mostly used for river play/play

due to the caraterstics of where i do most of my paddling these will need to be a very strong construction

any advise would be greatly apreciated

Some disagree with me, but i like Robson Paddles.
I have a Robson Green, which is a good allround paddle, it has a sturdy construction and has not let me down yet.
Weight wise it is not the lightest on the market but is not amazingly heavy. I do not have an endless supply of money
so I was pleased with the price that I paid for it.

Hope this was useful, Rob.

i think the riot premieres are rebadged Tywarps so you could try one of those or get some cranked werners glass or carbon depending on the ammount you want to spend

personally im going to get some At2 or werner Double Diamonds but not sure which ones yet

Werners are the way to go as everything else seems to brake more often. But don't get the foam filled blades (double diamond / shogun) if you think that you may at some point hit a rock as they don't hold up anyway near as well as the standard blades.

Bent shafts are kinder on the wrists for those who boat a lot.

They are a simular blade shape alright but the construction is quite different.
The tywarps have a nasty habbit of breaking.
Was in Uganda this summer and some of the lads I was there with had them and they all broke (without exception) The problem I see with them is there is no spigot in the blades, simular to the construction of polo blades. Keeps the weight down but can't handle the big hits, be it water or rocks.

BTW after getting a pair of G-spot kenetic polo paddles a while back and they are the bees knees if anyone is interested.

Looks like I have gone for the streamlyte playsticks with the modified crank (waiting on a price from my local supplier), still looking into getting the riot premiers also all be it in April/May

i paddle with mitchell blades and i think there gr8 paddles most people i see have them and the guy who you get them of (lance mitchell) lets you choose your own designs for the blades, degree of blade, paddle shaft, e.t.c. there around £160 so not cheep but there deffingihtly my favourite type of paddle.. check his website out..

I,ve been looking at the lendal kinetik xti blades, they look pretty good for the price and u can get them in loads if different specs dependingon how much you want to spend.
Just one problem, do i go for cranked or a straight shaft?

Cheers,

cranked is easier on the wrist but more difficult to use straight is just straight forward and easy to use just hard on the wrist if you are out to long

I think most people will agree that once you start using crank shaft paddles you will find it quite hard to go back to paddling straight shat paddles

The crank lets your wrists sit in a more natural position when paddling, thus reducing/eliminating wrist pain when doing long session on the water

If your just starting out, a straight shaft is probaly the best choice. They offer a wide range of hand positions which are useful for different purposes. I just got a new AT3 edge and i feel like I have way more power but paddling is harder due to the wide hand position.b

Cheers Guys, had a look at mitchell blades, you're right their site is really confusing and they have so many different constructions to choose from, it seems to be aimed at the more experienced paddler who knows exactly what they want from a paddle and have a fair bit of money to spend.

ive got a simple set of werner side kicks its a easy blade to work with it takes no time at all to get on with
but cranks are the way forward but i suggest that you try a pair as must people hold them wrongly
oh my blades are super strong im forever throwing them around and abusing them but robson greens are a real good option there bomber they really are

I paddled with a cranked robson tsud i think it was the other week, that was a really powerful blade just a little expensive for my budget. (around £150).
i was looking at the different werners but even the basic Straight shaft paddles seem to be pretty pricy.
i think i'm just gonna have to splash out a little more.

I'll have a proper look at the mitchell blades site again. see if i can understand it a bit better now i've researched a bit more.

What does anyone think of the AT4 Play, it looks sweet as, but is it worth £200?

were all the paddles from the same batch?
they have a 1 year warranty anyway but even then it still shouldn't be happening.
Cheers.

I was a happy owner of a RoughStuff Tempest, I really loved that paddle, but last year I lost it.
So, since I did'nt want to spend again lot of money, I bought a Ty Warp Warp 11.

Then I broken it, by hitting quite hardly a stone.

The vendor told me that at the end Warp 11, despite they are cheaper, tends to break less frequently respect to warp 10 and warp 8.

I don't know if it's true.

What can I say, comparing with the Tempest, is that Ty warp are really very stiff, and for this reason I needed some time to get familiar with it.

Another thing I noticed looking at tywarp site is that it seems they changed material recently.
My warp 11 has printed on it that shaft is made in fiberglass and blade is carbon/fiberglass
Now in the site it is stated that is 100% fiberglass, so it shold be of lesser quality.

Ciao

Personally im on my 2nd set of glass straight players and love them to bits. My first set is 45r my newer ones got around a year or 2 ago no feather! Still use my old ones 4 creeking, around uk and europe theyve been run over in the Ubaye gravel car park by my friends vw transporter with his pogos no worries then paddled the race course and the Gorge great day out?

I been thinking again and i will probably go for a cranked shafted player prob carbon shaft with glas blades or full carbon seeing as i paddle in lovely South Wales! price wise check out www.upandunder.co.uk theyre sellin werners 4 £170ish robsons around £130 both with nicer blades and shafts in my opinion!
