Hey all,

I know I have been away for a while but my puter broke...

Anyway, It is the off season here and time to start getting back into shape. What are some good routines to strengthen up b4 the season really gets kicking??

There's a lot you can do...cardio, of course, will build endurance for longer sessions. For strength, straight-arm pulldowns, rows from different angles, pull-ups, push-ups from unstable surfaces will build upper body strength--you can even attach bands to the paddle from different angles to provide resistance; hanging knee raises--forward and sideways, planks, side planks, internal oblique ball crunches, external oblique ball crunches will build core strength. The side hanging knee raises will also work on hip strength, as well. Inner thigh work is also important. Lastly, it is important to work the rotator cuffs to prevent injury. Don't forget to work the muscles not used in kayaking (as few as these are)--you want to create a balanced body. I find yoga very helpful--it fills in the gaps and creates great flexibility. Hope that isn't too confusing! Good luck!

if u want a more in-depth description of the exercises, just let me know and I can describe them in a more detailed manner. it gets confusing with everyone calling the same exercise by five different names. Let me know!
