Neutron HDP? 17 years 1 month ago #20585

Any unsponsored beta on the Mega Neutron HDP? How is the paddler weight range? Does the power pocket help out? Does it have better knee room than the Storm?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know the other boats but tried a Mega Maverick a while back. While it was super fast it has a poor seating position with legs very straight and terrible outfitting.

The Fluid Element has lots of knee room and a nice seating position the same as a normal playboat. Very comfy. Check it out here:

Going to be hitting some waves soon! (at bloody last moving to the ocean...)

I have only had a sit-in in the composite version of the Neutron but it has way more legroom than the Maverick (I owned one and hated the seating position, your legs are stretched out really flat).

Unfortunately I don't know the Storm so I can't compare.

The Fluid Element also looks very promising though. I can't wait for summer to arrive so I can test it, as it is finally available overhere!

Cheers,

Michiel

Ja Michiel is right on the legroom bit.
The Maverick is advertised as the boat for bigger paddlers but the Neutron is the one that'll fit bigger paddlers in. Umm the hump helps alot if you are near the upper weight reaches, sort of balances you on the flat and make it less likely to dig in in reverse if you mess up your paddle out.
One of the guys who paddles with us weighs 96kg and is cool with his Neutron, wouldn't go for it if you weigh much more than that.

Outfitting pretty basic but foam and contact can sort it. Adriaan is right, Element worth looking at. Took one out on Sunday, okay on speed, can cut-back and all the basics. Won't appeal to more traditional surf-kayakers but you'll have lots of fun with it.

Oh, I forgot: have you looked at the DBXclusive Fusion (designed by Nathan Eades)? I know it's a composite boat but supposedly it has a loot of room inside and is very comfy.

Just to confuse things a little more :roflol:

Rowan, my broetjie my bra, wie is Adriaan? Jisliaak it! Het die Kaap jou 'n bietjie verander?? :roflol: hehehehehe. Ingeliiish asseblief  Looking forward to jolling at the end of the month with you.

The Element probably won't appeal to a lot of traditional surf kayakers, I do agree with that. But its still a great boat and will fulfill its role nicely in the market. Big aerial moves are all possible and the difference between it and a normal play boat in terms of seating position and outfitting is not too radically different at least. Definitely a super fun boat to paddle and far faster than any normal play boat..

In case you wanted an idea, this is Dungeons:

www.wannasurf.com/spot/Africa/South_Afri.../dungeons/index.html

Only man who has done it is Oli Feuillette in one of his home made boats. I'd be too concerned about :skull: to try, 45 sec hold-downs on a board?

Re:Neutron HDP? 17 years 1 month ago #20619

Ja I know the spot. Hmmm, not sure I could do 45 seconds downtime. Well, as long as your spray deck doesn't pop you should come up a lot quicker than a surfer! I wonder if Oli has any photos of him running it. Its nice to dream though.. :skull: hehehehe. Maybe when it works on a 3.5m swell then it won't be as deadly? :scared: Something to perhaps work towards over the next year or two or three or four..

Keeping a spray deck on could be a problem..

Only the crazy frenchman could try something like that. :notworthy:

And with a homemade boat!!!

Adrian maybe you should spend some time with Oli he is pretty good at sailing to, busy building a boat to sail around the world .

Last time he told me a sailing story they had half of cape town looking for him in false bay:bounce:

Hi

I have surfed both the mega neutron hdp and Valley storm. i found that the neutron takes of on a wave easily as the storm takes more effort, one on the wave the neutron is more manuverable and fast, the thing about the neutron is that its copit rim has a strange dip in it. This is a weakness in that it is more likely to cause your deck to implode under the pressureof a dumping wave.

This does not occur whith the maverick. The seatind position is relatively the same in the storm and the neutron.
The storm is also hard to carry.

Hope this helps
Dan :)

I also have paddled the Neutron, Storm and used to own a fusion. I personally think in the plastic boats the sitting position in the Storm is comfier than the Neutron and it surfs really well for a plastic boat I didnt like the neutron as much but again it is a personal preferance.

I personally use a Xtech Reflex which is awesome great design works really well, and prefer it over the Fusion in some areas but the original fusion was an awesome boat to surf, but after surfing both I found the Reflex a better boat for me! :)

Happy surfin
