Anyone else had this problem? 17 years 1 month ago #20868

Okay so the story goes like this, I bought a shiny brand spanky new project back last autumn and instantly fell in love with it. Then around the end of janurary I found the boat was letting in lots of water. Further inspection revealed a series of cracks along the cockpit rim near the thigh brace. So back to the dealer with me where the boat was replaced within a week, with no quibbles. Sound! So now I have this new boat just over 6 weeks, have paddled it only a handful of times and now I find a similar crack developing in the same region.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with these boats?

Jeez, not cool. I broke 2 Big EZ's that cracked at the front seat bolt, on the cockpit rim. My EZG60 got a huge gouge in it that dented in the boat and never popped out, even with heat. I moved away from Wave Sport after that..

The Project is a super boat. Sorry to hear about your bad run. Test drive a few other brands perhaps, Fluid Nemesis? ;) The Fluid plastic is really, really super.

Adrian,
Ok - every chance you get you are pumping the Nemesis. When can I see a large one on the west coast usa?

:) Well, the large mould is not finished yet so it could still be a while. I really am guessing but I'd say a minimum of 3 to 4 months. It takes about 2 months to ship to the USA alone.. Sorry I can't be of more help.. ;)

I work for a dealer and have taken a few returns (EZG 50, project...) with the same problem. Last year, maybe the year before, WS was having a moulding problem near the kiss offs (those little dimples above the thigh brace). If you felt under the cockpit rim near the kiss off's there was normally a small dimple where there was not quite enough plastic. It may be possible that there is also a weld visible in the same position. At the store level we have been told to replace the boat for the customer and WS will reimburse us. When you go get the new one check under the cockpit rim for any dimpling or welding. The official policy of WS, top my understanding, is that no welding in the cockpit is allowed because of the structural nature of the cockpit rim. I personally have not had any returns of this type in the last number of months but you dealer should be aware of the problem. If you are anywhere near Vancouver BC I work at Western Canoeing & Kayaking. We can help with your warranty.
