can't...make...up...mind...going...crazy... 17 years 1 week ago #21221

tryiyng to make up my mind on a new playboat

my stats:
5'11''
175 pounds

boats in question:
bliss-stick specialist
wavesport project 52
bliss-stick super rad 180

i've gotten the chance to paddle all three boats, still can't decide
here is what i did NOT like about each boat[/u]
    rad 180
    two things...
    1. the stern felt huge, like a secod bow. being wide made agressive moves feel slower, and the lack of rocker ? or just width of the stern made it caetch in the hole when doign any sort of back blast or spin or anything that required the stern to point upstreem.
    2. the knee hooks: it felt like the were holding my knees down which was both uncomfortable and limited performance, i dont know if i cuould tweak it or not to make it better....

    the specialist:
    1. the short length made it feel supper slow in a feature
    2. its short length also made it feel very unbalanced for cartwheels, but maybe thats just me.
    3. at my weight, 175, i am concerned about the amount of air i will be able to get, i.e. im afraid it loops small.

    project 52
    1. stern seemed eager to caetch in a hole, just like the rad 180, but without the sluggishness.
    2. super hard to get the bow down on flats, given i had the least amount of time in this boat (30 minutes) and adjusting the outfitting wasnt an option.

    out of the three....
the rad felt the most down river capable, although the other two were not two far behind.
the project felt like the smoothest boat out of the 3
the specialist felt great, felt like the outfitting config aloud for the greatest performance
also, throwing around the specialist was a blast.

    so.
    im in need of help.
    thanks in advance

Out of those 3, I would take the Project 52. Although I'm not a fan of Wave Sport plastic and think the Bliss Stick plastic is better.

Don't take this the wrong way. :) You probably can't get the bow down because of technique. You are heavy enough and the Project is not too large. Just keep at it mate, you will get it. When I first got my Big EZ I could not get the bow or stern down. Not by double pumping or by doing a plowing ender. After a while, I got it.. The stern may catch a little more in a hole as it doesn't quite have the rocker. Great boat, better on a wave probably. Don't know the others. I've been on the Zam with a guy who paddled a RAD and it seemed like he was always getting back looped all the time. Very short stern.. Just my :2cents: on the matter. Demo them again perhaps.

My stats 5'8" 160Lbs. I have a P52 and love it. It took a while (3 months) to get the bow and stern down consistently, but now it is second nature. The boat is well balanced and cartwheels fairly easily. The boat feels great when outfitted correctly. Fits like a glove. Faster downriver than expected.
No experience with the others.

I'd go with the Jackson All-Star 2007 or 2008 model... I swear by it. I'm 5'10" and 175lbs I LOVE IT! Just make sure you get in one before you buy anything else!

Hey Whitewaterules,
Have you paddled both the P52 and the 2008 All-star.
If so how do they compare?
I would love to demo the Allstar but there isn't a dealer anywhere close.

Oh.. I've paddle All-Star as well.. excellent excellent boat, but truth be told I just liked the feel and fit of the WaveSport P52 better. You sit a little lower and you have bigger side walls on the p52, so the edge is a little more forgiving when cartwheeling... It's a matter of preference, when it comes down to it, but the p52 was a better match for my style. The All-star is super easy to throw around, you'll notice a difference how easy it is to transfer edges and initiate an edge. You can't go wrong with the JK so I'd just try and see if anyone on the river would let you hope in one for a test on a wave or whatever. hope this helped in some way at all:dry:

Thanks Danger.
That helps me a ton. Intiting the bow and stern aren't a problem anymore. I'll surely keep the P52 until (if ever) I can demo a JK.
